Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience or was ever RX'd or offered a pain medication, Nubain? It's a morphine type pain medication given IM, SC or IV. It's successful in treating chronic pain and also RA pain. Unlike morphine, it's supposed to be better in that it doesn't have the CNS depression and withdrawel risk.
Figured I would ask. I called a pain management doc today. My GI referred him to me. But when he called me back, he said his thing is really epidurals, nerve blocks and injections and kind of just spine and disc stuff. He's not an oral RX pain med type of doc. Which was totally cool because @ least he was honest and didn't waste my time or money. So he gave me some advise & suggested some pain medications my PCP can RX.
Ugh, so I guess my PCP has to be my pain management doc!
That means I have to do my homework and pick a med! (He basically will just ask,"well what do you want?") argh!!! I was really looking for a pain doc who was like...GOOD! and up on the newest and innovated stuff.
So......
Can't take any COx2's or NSAIDs
No ultracets or ultrams or toradol/tramadol.
Darvocet ...I'm tolerant to now.
Dilaudid @ 4mg is just OK....too short acting.
Percocet 5-325mg APAP is alright.
Any others should think about?
Thanks so much.
