Has anyone ever had steroid injections into their ankles?

Just wondering because I have no idea what to do for this anymore.  4 weeks ago I had intra-articular injections to the knees and that keeps the joint pain tolerable...but I never got to enjoy my new knees because the ankles are cuhput!

Had anyone ever had this done or heard of steroid injections to the ankles?  Or perhaps does the rheummy inject into some other area of the foot??? confused

Oh, and yes...I've been taking as much oral steroids as I can keep down and have recieved steroid shots IM...am going for another IM this week.

Yes, I have had many steroid injections into my ankles. This was about 15 years ago, though. I had other various joint problems & other symptoms before then but my ankle happened to get so badly swollen & painful I couldnt walk on it so i went to a foot/ankle doc for it. He couldnt figure out what was going on and I had no insurance so in depth testing & imaging was out of the question. I worked it out with an xray place to take just 1 image in the best way to possibly see what was going on. It didnt show anything. The swelling got so bad I could not put any shoe on and I was just diagnosed with "synovitis". He tried treating me with so many things and ended up giving me several steroid injections into my ankle. I think the pain of getting those shots while it was so swollen already almost felt worse than the pain in the ankle. Needless to say those shots didnt do anything for me. I went on like this for about a year (and developed some swelling/stiffness in other joints plus other weird symptoms). Eventually it all just kind of disappeared and went away and all felt normal again including my ankle! Of course this was just my experience so it's possible it may help you.

To start with I have crohns,ra,oa,as,sejerns and possibly(sp)MS.Now with that When I first got sick and was told that I had crohns I as well started having alot of joint pain was told that it was not uncommon to have joint pain and swelling with crohns.So for about the first six months I woke to severe pain in my joint's and I was swelling up,I then went to see a Rheumatolagist on the advise of my GI and had test done blood work and She(Rheumy)told me that I had RA and then was put on alot of meds and it seemed like none helped and then we finally got me on Remicade and for awhile it helped both the ra ans crohns but then I built up ant-serum sickness from it and so had to come off of it.Then joint pain returned and the swelling was even worse than before.After months of fighting my insurance they finally approved for Humira.Now keep in mind I was in a whell-chair for a year because I was so swollen up and the joint pain was so bad that I know longer could walk.I was put on methotrexate and Humira and and with in four months I was able to get out of the wheel-chair and I did have to take PT for a few months because my musels were so week I had to build them back up.Now two week's ago I had steroid shot's because I have been in a bad flare and I was in severe pain and swelling again.I got only a loading does of 40 because stroids cause my lungs to ack up,but it did not help and I had to go back and get the other 40 and it eased for a couple of day's but it is back.So right now I'am on Plaqunile 200mg,Sulfazine3,000mg and I'm still on the Humira but have been taken off of methotrexate because I was put on 6mp and the two do not mix.I'am sorry for this being so long but wanted you to see you are by fare not alone and we are here for you.
