My husband has had gout for 7 years with a few flare ups where he couldn't walk. He has it in his big toe. Whenever he'd felt a twinge of it coming on or had a big attack of it, he'd take indocin and it eventually would go away. Along with that he watches what he eats and drinks. That seems to really help keeping it away, but not always.
He has been dealing with a flare up for over a month and the indocin just isn't cutting it. I found a website: http://www.icuredmygout.org/ from a gout forum i was on: http://ehealthforum.com/health/gout.html. For the past 5 days, my husband has been taking baking soda (he also just started taking cherry juice on the same day). He said (not wanting to jinks himself!) that the gout has gone away and his foot is feeling the best it has in awhile. He didn't take any indocin in those 5 days. He'd take 600mg motrin in the morning and at night. Right now his foot is a little red and puffy (to be expected). He's not quite sure if it was taking the baking soda or not, but he's going to continue taking it and see if it continues to work. He also said compared to taking indocin for a flare up in the past and taking the baking soda, it seems that the baking soda made it go away faster.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had any success with taking baking soda and would like any feedback.
Thanks
