Having a cold and taking Humira

HI everyone,

I am new here.    I have RA, fibromyalgia and CFS.  I take lots of meds.  I am currently taking Humira and MTX for the RA.  I recently developed a cold, or sinus infection.  So I was wondering, do I need to not take my Humira if I am still having these cold symptoms?

Hi Nayner, Welcome to healingwell. My rule of thumb with the tnf-inhibitors and illness is that, for me, it is fine to take it with a simple cold. If I have a fever, however, no. If I end up taking antibiotics, no. Just a cough and a stuffy nose (which is certainly miserable), I go ahead. I learned early on though, that if I call my rheumy's office, they're going to say no if you have a little sniffle (liability reasons).

Thanks for the information.  I normally take my Humira shot on Saturday, so Im thinking by then I should be almost back to normal!! Whatever that is!

Thats kind of what I was thinking too, since it appears to be mainly a cold with sniffles and stuffiness.  I always seem to run a little bit of a fever, so Unless it goes sky high I guess Im ok.

Live and learn huh,,.... if I do the shot and it prolongs my cold or  turns it into something else, than I will know for the future
