Hello, Y'all I'm Newly diagnosised with Arthritis in my lower bwck and had spinal pain injections this morning into my back for it..
Still hurt and I'm going to take a vicodin and rest...so so tired...
How often does arthritis flair up? How long will the spinal injections be good for?
I also have Asthma and Gerd and depression and now arthritis...
So new here and many questions, but I'll have to come back later as I just twisted up with pain right now

Hey Chartreux.. welcome to the arthritis side of the house.. glad to have ya! What type of arthritis have you been diagnosed with? Are you on anything else other than the injections? Take care and hope to keep talking to ya!

welcome chartreux, i dont know much about back pian or the injections but i am certain someone out there will come on soon. hope they work for you and last a while. take care and keep us posted yalinda

Don't know what type of Arthritis, doctor said arthritis and then just left the room ( with me in the dark so to speak). If I had to guess I'd say RA because I was in a car accident a few years ago. Just not sure....
Doctor sure know how to be abrupt, do they even have a clue ???
MRI showed a lot of inflamation along my lower spine S1 to L5.
Really wish those injections he did would start to work soon, he said it could take up to two weeks, ugh!!!!!!!!!!

Yes welcome sorry you have arthritis and it does suck but we all support each other and will do the same for you.So please post any time you would like.

hi Chartreux,

welcome & good to have you! :-) car crash? hmmm?  in my opinion (and by no means does it have to count tongue ) if an arthritis is localized to just one area and is caused or was thought to be caused by trauma...it could be osteoarthritis.  for example, an injured athlete's knee?  will most likely get OsteoArthritis.

is it anywhere else in the body?  and remember that RA is an autoimmune disease which acts more like Lupus than just a localized osteoarthritis from wear and tear (which is a normal aging process). and then again, there are people who have OA and RA too.

specific to the spine or types like Ankylosing Spondylitis.  i would really urge the doc to explain himself thoroughly to you.  if it is an autoimmune disease, that's something that SHOULD NOT be left hanging in the air without you knowing.

when's your next appt with the doc?

The following post once again makes me think that the docs dose not do their work as they used to do.

 



 

 

Arthrit"is" means INFLAMATION of "a/-" JOINT"s".

There are several different types of arthrit"is".

 

 

 

What the inflamation is caused by, it's an acadmic question?! That issue the docs would be concerned by mostly! It's the most important issue! So if it caused by a car accident (trauma), a "speciffic" treatment should be taken, if it is hernia - also, if it is an infection - too,... if it is an autoimmune - totaly different approach should be taken... And,............................. it must be totaly clarified. So! I can hardly beleive that the doc is not familiar with what is the cause of your arthritis......

So, what is the cause of your arthritis Chartreux?

If *accidently* the doc is *not familiar to*, you should warn him/her that you will bring to trial if he/her does not tell you correctly  what is the cause of your arthritis

Your replies helped me and the doctor told me today that it is Osteoarthritis that I have and that I might need a second set of spinal pain injections.
I just want this all to go away.
Wouldn't it be nice if we all could rewind certain things in our lives (lol)!
Just started Physical Therapy today it was hard and it was painful, but I'm going to do my best to get up and going again.

Ah, spinal OA mad sorry. Ugh...never easy.  And YEAH...I wanna rewind like 10 years! tongue

Do you have pain management for any back/spine pain beside the spinal injections?  And if so, is it effective...what you are taking for pain?  I would recommend, when you get time, to seek a spine specialist.

They have nifty tricks up their white coat sleeves.

Thanks Erin for your replies, this forum is a god send for me as I know so little about arthritis, other than it's inflamation.
I take vicodin at night only because I need to be able to drive during the daytime so I put up with the break through pain and spamas (spelling?), it's toleable. My daughter wants us all to go to church tomorrow if only she knew how hard it's going to be for me sitting on a hard bench for an hour.

I can olny tolerate traction for ten minutes before the pain and then they strape me in so tight it kinda gets hard to breathe and I have asthma. I've had quite a few asthma flairs this year. The Traction scares me I don't know why, I just get really scared of it, they say most people fall to sleep, but I get scared and I'm nerous with the pain management doctor too. The pain management doctor I see, is abrupt with me that's the best word I can use to describe it.

Hi Chartreux,

I have osteoarthritis in my spine and have gone through the epidural steroid injections this past spring. I had 3 injections over 6 weeks. For me, they wore off one month after the 3rd injection - but this does not apply to everyone. For some people, it gives them relief for years (and I guess it also depends on the problem and severity). I should also mention that I had the injections due to herniated & torn discs and the shots did help that problem, even after they wore off, my sciatica did not return. But I also have severe lumbar stenosis, which was due, in part, from the OA. Early on, I would have some days where it flared up pretty badly but there's no way to say when or how long anyone's would flare up. As my stenosis worsened, my pain was all the time and only got worse..but my OA definitely flares up more in rainy weather and humid weather. I also have lupus with arthritis and there is no way for me to know when that will flare up....but that happens in my other joints such as ankels, knees, hands.
