well it looks like we been busy with the holidays and i hope everyone is getting through them ok.  me i have learned i just cant host partied like i use to.  but i am ok with that. i think? eyes been recouping from a dinner i had on thursday with friends.  i was in so much pain by the time we sat down to eat i had no appetite, but i tried not to let on too much.  just said i dont think i will be doing this again in the near future.  it really is not worth it as i dont enjoy the end result cuz i hurt too much.  so next time it will be take out :-)

 

i tried to take the sulfazine again and felt like garbage.  it makes me feel like i am sea sick real real  bad so after three separate tries i quit!  i would rather have pain then feel like i am sick and dizzy. 

 

anyone have new years plans that are interesting?  i am going to a friends house so i have NO work to do other than 1 dish and i am makiing it easy for me three cheeses on a platter with some fruit.

hey ya'll

just a note stating i'm not dead. lol.  been really sick STILL.  leftovers from the flu & and relapse.

but i did want to write a little glimpse of hope for all out there on Remicade or starting it:  had the 5th infusion...and i didn't need to use ANY dilaudid for a little over 2 weeks! yeah haven't been able to do that for over 7 years, so it goes to show that the Remicade is at least helping with the RA pain...i mean, i still have pretty bad joint pain, but it's almost controlable with rest & tylenol.

that or the joints are not that bad because i have been on my posterior for the last 3 weeks eyes well whatever...lol.

Hi Erin, Ducky, and Yalinda. So good to hear from you! Sorry to hear that you guys aren't doing all that well. But good to know that you made it through the holidays! I'm always a bit sad when the holiday craze is over; I'm usually exhausted, and this year is no exception, but now it's back to the same ole routine. I need to do something different this year.

I'm still doing great with the mtx and enbrel (Yalinda, weren't you going to ask your rheumy about adding a biologic to the mtx?). I'm still fighting a sinus infection, though. I took 14 days of an antibiotic (ceftin), and it seemed to work--took my sinus sx away and my low grade fever (as it turns out, the fever is not a figment of my imagination after all). within two weeks of stopping the antibiotic, however, the sinus sx and temperature came back around Christmas (great timing, huh?). I noticed that my rheumy gave me a refill on the ceftin, so I refilled it and I'm about halfway through a second 14-day stint. All in all, this is my sixth week on antibiotics for my sinuses! It's taking forever for the infection to clear up; I feel ok now, sx are down and fever is gone, but what happens once I finish up the antibiotic again? Rheumy said that on enbrel and mtx, very aggressive therapy (whatever that entails) may be required, especially for sinuses, since those infections tend to be stubborn anyway.

I've started running again! And using the elliptical machine at the gym. Joint-wise, I'm doing great and it feels so good to exercise again. I truly hope that I can find some strategy for keeping the infections at bay and keep taking the enbrel. Otherwise, I'll have to give it up and deal with mtx alone. I am still taking plaquenil, but have doubts that it's doing all that much (but I could be wrong).

Hi all! I'm here as well. Happy New Year! We didn't do much out of the home for the holidays....I did have family visiting and just hung out with the kids and played a bunch of new games (of course, the house is a disaster now and now I'm too in pain from missing medication (long story),rain, and having gained 10 pounds in the past month to do much about it!)

Yalinda, I started Azulphidine 2-3 months ago and it made me feel AWFUL as well. I finally cut the dosage in 1/2 and have been taking that ever since. In the last week, I've brought 1/2 of that missing 1/2 back in at night time.....so far so good, but I have been getting mild headaches during the day again. I think I won't go any higher in dose for a while until I'm used to this new dose.

Erin, I hope your health improves soon!

hi everyone! tongue   let me start by saying it is going to be almost 60 here today!  craig i am sry for all ur snow but we are basking in the sun!  and if anyone knows what my winters are like u would understand why it is the talk of the town.  but when we get hit again it will be like our oct. storm so if i go missing for a week and u hear snow hit just know i am without power but maybe it will never happen this year.

 

now on topic,  elcamino i did ask about biologics and the rhuemmy put me instead on the sulfazine and all 3 times i felt sick even with just one pill and to be achy and barfy is not a good plan while driving all over creation working.  i see my rhuemmy on the 15th and i will c what he says then.  i am doing fairly well though, not great but not too bad either. i am soooooooooo happy u r doing so good going to the gym!  i have tried several times to go back but i never can get into the routine again without having a bad couple of days. i have begun to loose the pred. face!  i am so happy my eyes are starting to show up on my face again hehehehehe.  it is funny people keep telling me my hair looks good and my make up but i know it is my moon face going bye bye so i smile and say thank you tongue

camama i am glad u can take that pill and i hope it helps ... i dont want to even try it a 4th time as each time i was so sick it made me be a slug on a bad boat ride hehehehehe

 

erin i have been worried about u.  i keep u in my prayers and look for any posts to see how u ri doing.  i know we all love and miss u here.

duck u been quiet too!  actually so was el and mama and everyone probably cuz of the holidays. 

 i was happy to see istone, pia and marius back on line and craig what a super hello.

long time no speak eh?  well, i'm a tryin'.  it's been rough but i figured since i'm jacked up on steroids & can't sleep & have the "i gotta do something jitters" from the pred...no better time than to type & read up on my peeps.

sorry i've been MIA for a while.  was very very ill.

the fatigue has got better, i can get out of bed/make my own coffe/and walk around the house a little bit (with crutches granted) and am able to type again and sit up.

so yeah...the past month and a half have been hell.

 

el, yalinda, duck, and everyone....good to read up on ya'll. some good some bad but that's the way it goes right.

 

hmmm?  update...i'm totally on fluid overload. 10 POUNDS!!!!!!!! confused eyes holey moley. can't get any of my jeans past my thighs.  granted i hit only 105 pounds...but 10 pounds in 3 days?????? whew. what a doozey.  due to all of the pred, and bags of fluid IV...plus bad inflammation in the vessels in my legs and my knee is a cantaulope. sad

pains been ubearable and i'm feeling an ER visit mught be in the future soon.  the dilaudid isn't cutting it and it's enough to make ya cry.

so i'm with my legs elevated for this week.

maybe get to the docs today.

writing in to give an update.

hasn't been pretty the past several weeks.

i have gone backwards since december 20th....blah.

last wednesday my knees failed me. don't know what happened but they just swelled up bigtime, and the pain was unbearable. had to go back on dilaudid & steroids.  knees got to the point where i couldn't walk at all.  sucks.

still can't put weight on the right knee.  legs still swollen.

so been on bedrest ever since the 20th.  have a pcp appt monday. somethings wrong...have an irky feeling. stool incontinence too! ewwww. it's humiliating. to put icing on the cake...i gained in a matter of a week...20 pounds. went from 90 tp 110...blah.

feel like a pool of jello.  funny how everyone says oh once you gain weight you'll get your strength back. confused what???? this is the worst i've felt in a long time.  and the weight just makes my legs hurt worse & sooner when standing. so even though i was way underweight...it was better on my joints. i'm not happy.

anywhoo...i'm p.o.'d about being on steroids, not sleeping and going through some excrutiating leg pain.

on top of being sick...i don't feel like myself either.

had to vent..thanx for listening.

(((Erin))).  Thanks for the update.  You've had such a rough time of it for as long as I've known you.  I simply have no idea what to say!  I pray that your doctors get your RA and crohn's under control soon.  Come vent here whenever you need to.

How are we this fun Saturday evening?  Me well, I have cramps (sorry Craig and all you guys out there) but yeah.. cramps cramps cramps.. and I'm cranky, from, well my cramps.. oh and I have no chocolate... sad so yeah, I'm in my own little H-E- double hockey sticks here.. but I'll be ok... tongue

 

What is new?  What's been going on.. I see that we've gotten a few new members... WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME to the family.. we are quite a dysfunctional one, but we work well together and we do love each other... tongue

 

yeah  Did I tell you guys we got a new puppy?  Hubby broke down and got one.. really surprised us.. anyways - she's a sweetie, a yellow lab and is very smart.. We have had her for 2 weeks and she is already potty-trained, knows her name, can fetch, sit and when she has a toy in her mouth and we tell her "drop" she drops it... not bad huh?  She'll be 10 weeks this Wednesday, so she is coming a long nicely.. So, it is like having a baby in the house again... she can't make it all night without going potty, so I have to get up a couple times a night to let her out... but I would much rather she wake me, than leave me a present for the morning! nono

 

Well, I hope all is well with everyone, sorry I have been MIA for so long.. I am back now.. look out!  Take care and we'll be seeing ya' on the boards! scool

Hi everyone! Welcome back! After the holiday break and school starting, we decided to pull the kids out of school for a few days and take a long camping trip. It was coooollld. I was a baby the first day complaining about my achy joints. I improved as it warmed up a tad, but the kids got nasty about how "slow mom walks" the whole time we were gone and all that jazz. My husband was apparently trying to make a 'funny' to them a few times and they are just too young to understand as they took it way too far and it ticked me off. I finally told the kids today that (once again) I don't find that funny AND if they don't want me to go on trips with them any more then that is fine with me because when we are on rocky ground and mommy's feet hurt, walking slow is the only kind of walking I can do. Next time, I'll just stay home while they go camping.  That quieted them up pretty quickly.  Am I a terrible mom?

ERIN - you sound like you are living a steroid nightmare!!!! I'm sooo sorry to hear what you are going through!!! That stuff messes with your brain big time and the weight you've gained is NOT good weight - no wonder it hurts to walk or move! Your body sounds like it is swollen to the max! (Valley Girl talk!) Feel better soon. Keep us up to date when you can!

Ducky yea!!!!!!  missed you!

yeah, camama...i'm in agony, trapped in hell called my body. i hate it.  1st time ina long time where i actually feel very uncomfortable in my own skin.  feeling extremely unattractive.

i don't know...i do much better with less weight.  especially on my legs. 110 is way to much for me to carry even though my old weight of 95 was very underweight (for 5'5).  i can't keep this on...i need crutched to walk & can barely stand to brush my teeth.

so hey it's sunday morning! i'm ready for bed. didn't sleep yet. redface however there were good films on last nite.

this really stinks.  i'm supposed to see Barry Manilow wednesday night & i don't wanna miss it. sad

i'm not the complainer...so we know this is really bad when all i do is bit** about this crap. times like this i really wish i was approved for disability already...it's pretty awful.

If your hubby said something to them, then that's what they picked up on.. they don't know any better, and it is good that you let them know that this isn't the life YOU picked, but the life you were DEALT.. hang in there, you're a GREAT mom and they will see that... :-)

I'm here guys! Still doing good with my joints. Still working out--decided to train for a 5k in May. Don't know if I'll make it, but I found a group of older women who run pretty slow, so I can keep up with them!

I'm still battling a sinus infection, I think? I did 14 days of antibiotics from rheumy. Got rid of my sinus sx and my low grade fever. Within two week of completing the antibiotics, the sx, including the fever, came back. I noticed that rheumy gave me a refill on the antibiotic, so I refilled it and I took it again for another 14 days (this makes 6 weeks of antibiotics for this stupid infection--took omnicef before I ever went to rheumy). Some days I feel the sinus sx, although they are mild. Fever came back, although it's higher some days than others. I just don't know what to do at this point. The antibiotics control the sx, and I can tell it is helping, but it doesn't seem to be enough. Plus, it is giving me those darn yeast infections (sorry guys). I've been eating yogurt like crazy, but other than that, I don't know what to do. Oh well, I'm not taking any antibiotics now, but I see my rheumy tomorrow and he may put me back on them.

Ducky--I have off tomorrow too. Woo Hoo!!!!!

Erin, I'm so envious. You're going to see Barry Manilow? I've always wanted to see him, but even if we had the $$$ at the same time he came to town, I could NEVER get my husband to take me :( He is NOT a Manilow fan. Although one thing about Barry is that even though many people claim to hate him, they always know the words to all of his songs :) Enjoy!

Camama--camping? This time of year?????!!!!!! You are insane!!!!!! I could never do it. I'm so abnormally cold all of the time, there's no way I could sleep with no heat. I guess it makes you a better person, though?

Yalinda--hope things are looking up for you! I've read some of your posts about the horrible time you've been having decreasing the prednisone, and I'm so sorry. I can only imagine the torture that must be. That's one reason I hope to never go on prednisone. Fortunately, my insurance has/had no problems approving me for the other DMARDs, so prednisone wasn't necessary--except for one time. If I ever have to switch drugs, though, or come down off enbrel, etc...., I will most likely have to take prednisone. My rheumy calls it a bridge drug for that reason--it helps people tranfer to other drugs.

gonna smile pretty for my ctscan tomorrow morning tongue ofcourse we are getting the start of that ice storm that hit the midwest here and they expect the morning to be a sheet of ice so who knows? our weather men never get it right lol tongue

 

have my monthly rhuemmy follow up tomorrow too!  i'll be interested to see what that brings?  didnt do the sulfazine so hopefully he wont be upset with me but like i said that stuff made me sick.  skull     i really dont want more meds just a cure hehehehehehe tongue

i went to this play today at a small theater it was called the birthday party.  i left there not understanding anything who was who and why they did what they did?  so if anyone knows about this play please fill me in redface cuz i frankly left there with NO comprehension.

We're home too! Of course, I don't have a paying job at the moment! tongue

We watched the Chargers fumble themselves out of the playoffs today. Though I was born in New England, my husband is an avid Chargers fan - so, our support went to San Diego today, though we were sadly disappointed.

As for camping, I do live in Southern California and though the nights did get down in the 20's (it's been that low here too!), the days (with the exception of that first day) went up in the mid-high 60's, and I think even the low 70's one day. Not to mention - when I was pregnant with my 1st, after years of bad feet and joint issues, I said, "forget it - I'm not sleeping on the ground anymore. I can't get up and down and we need a heater for the baby!" devil   City girl at her best!

Yalinda, I never heard of that play.

Erin, are you feeling any better today? I hope so!

How are we this fine Monday morning?  Me?  Well, for some reason, I think I am loosing my voice.. not real sure why, but it doesn't sound very good... blech... sad Anyways, other than that, things are groovy... Weather is still warm here.. not sure if we're gonna get the cold snap or not.. It is supposed to be 76 here today... I think it'll cool off into the 50's and 60's this week, but that's it...

Well, though I have laundry and cleaning myself - I'll trade with you if you want to come and get my son to pick up his toys and my daughter to do her homework that she's refused to do all weekend long! The kids have a bday party later today, so those needs to be done first! tongue  

They say our cold front will stay until Thursday. But, it does seem a touch warmer today than it's been. Yeah! Funny how we seem to have opposite weather all the time.

We love the snow here and can never get enough. I'm only sorry because I can't ride outside, but I can ski and snowshoe and play in general!

el the folow up 4 u i went to my rhuemmy and right now i am keeping low on the meds mainly my choice. he did offer me a cortisone shot in my feet, but i hate needles so i told him maybe next time.  therefore i give up any rights to complain on this sight from pain as i redused several options based on the fact that i am trying to deal with things as positively and med free as possible nono

 

i also got my ctscan results and the nodules didnt grow in the past three months but i will have a repeat ct in 4 months and  i guess the rest of my life? confused   hugs to all yalinda

I fell HARD about 6 months ago at work and broke my tail bone. I think I've talked about it before, I don't remember though. Anyway, the insurance company has been giving me a very hard time. The woman wants to close my case and say that I'm healed. UUUMMMM, nope!!! I hurt everyday as my AS has set into it. I have a very hard time sitting on hard chairs, actually sitting on most chairs for extended periods of time. So I called her and left her a message telling her I was switching from my PCP to my rheumy for treatment. I said that he would be in charge of my treatment and when he thinks it's the best it's ever going to be, then he will inform her of the percentage of my disability for life and they can then pay me a settlement for my injury. If they don't, I'm finding a lawyer to take my case and sue them. I've already discussed it over the phone with a lawyer and he thinks I have a pretty good case and could win quite a bit, probably more than they offer. We'll see what happens. Wish me luck!!!
