I was hoping for some resolve during my visit to the opthomologist. Instead, I received the usual rhetoric from HMO doctors. "It isn't temporal arteritis, I've never seen a case in anyone under 70 years old (I'm 51 yrs.), and I've never seen a case in anyone with a normal sed rate". Period. However, he was confused by my symptons, they were all indicative of TA, but he refused to do a biopsy. A biopsy would rule out TA once and for all.
So, from everything I've read about TA, for example, it affects people over 50, 1/2 of all TA sufferers will have a normal sed rate, and the only way to rule out TA is with a biopsy.
He said my symptons were also indicitive of autoimmunne disease, lupus, arthiritis, etc. But, because my test results were showing normal (most of my tests were either low or high in the normal range, with the exception of RBC which was below normal) he felt I needed to see a doctor in mental health.
He sent me on my way with a cheery wish for a New Year. I left the room and immediately broke into tears.
Crazy???? Only because the doctors make us so.
