Hi All,
I just jointed this forum yesterday and have read quit a bit. I have rhumatoid arthritis and some other health problems. I am going to a RA doctor and am currently on remicade every eight weeks at this time. I also take methohextrate once a week. It is not easy somtimes. The remicade is helping but I am starting to have some problems. I see the doctor very soon. I was really upset when I found out that I have RA. It is kind of scarey sometimes. Welcome..................I know it is scary. The future is so unknown and the disease can change at anytime. I think at some point you get use to it. We are lucky that there are medications now and the doctors seem to understand the workings of the disease more. The risks are more manageable and they are coming out with new meds. There seems to be new research and drugs. I think we will see more in the new future. The drug companies are making more money so they will be putting money into research. So they can find more new drugs to make more money. In the long run it gives us more choices and possibly a better future. How are you feeling?

welcome akipuppy! tongue   glad u found us here on HW!  great source for information and support!  i too have RA and am only on the mtx.  good days bad days u know how it goes, but i wish u luck and hope to hear more from u in the future. what kinda of problems r u having?  med related or pain managemnt?  well good luck   take care  yalinda smurf

Thanks for the welcome. I am feeling pretty good. The pain is always there some place, however. I notice when I get sick it takes me a long time to get over it. I hate that. I do know, however their are people worse off than me. I have some other issues in my life that I will go into at another time as I need to get ready to go somewhere. Do you get depressed? I do and don't like it. I am seeing a councilor and he is helping quite a bit. Need to go for this time. Take care and God bless

Hi there.........I do get depressed. It goes up and down. I did get antidepressants but I never took them. I don't think more drugs are the answer. If I felt better I would not be depressed. It seems very much linked to the pain. I hope raising my drugs will start working for me. I am glad your doing O.K..........

Hey there AkiPuppy... welcome to Healing Well.. I'm sorry I have been late in welcoming you, I too have been feeling poorly lately and not in the best of moods.. but I see that Yalinda and Harley Diva have done a wonderful job in welcoming you to our community... So sorry that you're not doing well.. it is a waiting game isn't it? When do you go to the doc next? I know you said soon, but maybe they can give you something to take in conjunction with the Remicade.. I know my rheumy told me that if the depression gets too bad, that he would prescribe something for me to help.. I didn't want that, but he said that it would help with the pain too.. so far I haven't had to go that route, but have been considering it lately.. hope you are well.. am looking forward to more of your posts.. be well and take good care...

Thanks for the welcome. I already saw the doctor. She has appointment on the weekends as she work somewhere else during the week. I am doing better than last year at this time. Also, I have some other problems to deal with. I have taken antidepressants in the past and did ok with them but because of some of my meds the doc sayws I should not take them now. I talk to a councilor who sees people that live in pain all of the time. He has really helped and has given me some skills to cope with both the pain but also the depression. This groups is really great. I like this form of communication. I am on some discussion lists and thought I would try it this way.
The other problems zI speak of I have been ddealing with most of my life. For one thing, I am totally blind and have a pretty suvere hearing loss. Hearing aids help with that a great deal. I travel with a black lab guide dog named Kodak. He is just wonderful and at times my lifeline. Two years ago I almost died and was in a comma for around nine days and have had some complications from that. I am active in muy church and love the internet. I am sorry for rambling but wanted to get this out there now. Well, I need to go. Take care and I will write back soon.

Hey AkiPuppy.. wow sounds like you have a bunch of stuff going on... What doctor are you being seen by? Are you being seen by a rheumy or general practitioner? Maybe you could see a Pain Management doc? hhmm... Kodak sounds wonderful! I have a yellow lab puppy that will be 13 weeks old tomorrow.. I just love dogs! I am so glad to have you here with us.... I hope you continue to post and stay with us for a long time.. this is a GREAT group of people here! I hope you have a good night! Tell Kodak I said hi! :)

Wow completely blind????  Out of curiousity, do you do the voice-activted computer devices to be able to type?  Does it read it back to you?  Amazing!

 

How long have you had RA?

 

Mmmm...yeah, I get sad to many times because I cannot walk where I want to, go out, work, and earn a living. It is very difficult.

 

I take Remicade as well. I love my nurses at the chemo lab. I go every 3 weeks on a Monday. Takes 6 hours for my infusion.  Been on it since October 9th 2006.

 

I'm still very hopeful that it will help with the RA disability.

I use a screenreader on my computer. It says what is on the screen and also when I type. I also have a reading and scanning program called open book. I can scan anything that is typed. No handwriting because all handwriting is not the same. I also have a braille embosser. I can scan tthings in and braille them out if I want to. The computer has opened up a new world to me. When I was in school in the sixties we learned to type just like everyone else. I am so glad I did now. I am currently seeing a rhumy for the RA. She is just wonderful. Hi Aki puppy..........Nice to have a rheumy who works on the weekends. Kodak sounds wonderful. I am also a dog person. I have a doberman and a boxer. They are a big concern. The doberman pulls when I walk him and it hurts my hands. I have a place where I have been letting them run. A park person came up in a truck the other day and told me the land was being turned over to the parks department and starting next month no dogs. I started crying. This has been the only way I can exercise my dogs and we all love it. I'm going to try some new collars and go back to wearing hand braces. He is not crazy on the leash it is my hands. Even a little jerk hurts.

I'm so glade that you found us.I know how you feel it is scary at times and most deffentley no fun.HW has been a god sin for me because when I found this site I was alone and scared out of my mind but then I found HW and it was so nice to be able to talke to people that are in the same shoes.Please do continue to post you aere welcome any time.

I hope I spell that right. Thanks for your welcome. Unfortunately, because I use a talking screenreader on my computer I am unable to keep up with the chatt. It was interesting trying, however. I am totally blind and my computer talks to me. It reads the screen and also when I type. The forums work just fine, however. I look forward to hearing more from you. Thanks again.

Oh AkiPuppy, I didn't even think about that.. I bet it was hectic for your computer to try and keep up with the chat, huh? Not good... The chats usually give me a headache.. 'cause of the text going so fast on the screen.. so I don't go in there much.. only once in a while... i stick to the forums mainly..

Thanks for the post. When I tried to do the chatt I guess my screenreader can't keep up. Just as I would type my message one would come in from someone. I guess it would be ok if there was only one other person in there. One time, I just got bounced off the internet altogether. It was kind of funny. I am glad I am not the only one who does not do chatt well. The forums work out just fine, however. I tuess it takes practice. Hope you all have a great rest of your Sunday.
