Boo, man I'm sorry to hear what you are going through!!!! People suck (can I say that here?) So many just don't get it when they haven't gone through something themselves.
All I can tell you about feet, and this still took me years to get to the point I'm at now - I wear New Balance walking or cross-trainers plus rx'd orhtodics WITH an additional metatarsil support (I bought and put on the orthodic support). I wear them ALL the time. I've worn them to parties, to work in my suit, to weddings I'm IN....you name it.....that plus consistent and intense calf stretching (I know it sounds weird.....) any time you have a sec to lean against something, do it and do a deep stretch for each leg. It gets me through the day usually. Still wiped out by end and ready to just plop. I've only found ONE model of New Balance that works for me....I've been through quite a few models trying to find the right fit and pair after 11 years! I have small and wide feet. Unfortunately, the pair I have are about $99 and never go on sale, but maybe you'll be more fortunate.
Also, for YEARS, I NEVER EVER went barefoot, even in the house (and this grossed out and disgusted my husband to no end - he finally agreed I should buy an "indoor" set of shoes, and I tried to get a cheaper pair, that was bad news!) Anyway, they stayed on until I went to bed or got in the shower. It was too painful to walk w/o the support of the shoe and inserts. At work, I stayed seated most of the day and had a box to put my legs up while I sat....again, it helped get through the day, but wasn't the greatest fix. Ankle supports also seemed to help my feet way back in the day.
Good luck. ******
