My sister needs help! whats wrong with her?

  I'm trying to get my older sister some help...she has been complaining of pain in her hands for quite some time now. they swell from time to time, and fall asleep all the time. I took a massage class a few years ago and tried massaging her hands..she slept okay for a couple of days but it just came back again. her hands are always tingling and numb feeling she says. when i was massaging her hands they felt very tight and weak. i was afraid to do the stretch on her hands because it felt like her skin was going to tear. Its gotten to the point where she can't sleep at night because of how painful it is.....to the point where she is in tears. I have to find out what this is! please help me with this....if you have any information at all as to what it might be i would appreciate it greatly! for now i will just do some more research. thanks in advance!

If she does any work that requires repetitive movements, like a typist, grocery cashier, assembly line, etc., she might have carpal tunnel syndrome. Tingling and numbness, even awakening the person at night, are symptoms of carpal tunnel. Also, swelling can make the condition worse and painful.

There are several other conditions that could be causing her problem. Is there a reason she has not seen a doctor about her problem?

I would look up to Raynaud's syndrome/phenonomen (I may have spelled that all wrong) and carpel tunel syndrome to get an idea if either of those might apply. But, I think seeing the doctor is still a must. Good luck and let us know what she finds out.
