October Sun ~
I'm stunned seeing all the people on the forum who started off with Parvo Virus. I did too. I had no idea it was so prevalent. I got sick over a year ago and it completely floored me. I lost my job immediately and have not worked since and can't see that changing until I can walk regularly.
I was bed ridden the first 4 months and then finally got somewhat functional but still had flares that knocked me down for days. At present I am on 5mg of Prednisone, 400mg Plaquinil and I get one Enbrel injection once every week. I was on 16 different meds before Enbrel saved the day just 3 months ago. I just got hit in the knees and right hip since beginning it, but I am optimistic that I'll learn how to manage my exertion better to avoid flares. The Rheumy says this is as good as it gets. I'm not thrilled. Nothing like the life I used to have. But the hands and feet actually WORK now so I hate to complain too much about the knees and hip! I'll go back if they get worse. But he pretty much said, so long as I'm not in 'constant' pain in an area, I'm just going to need to figure out how to gauge my output so that I don't end up in a flare and on my back for a few days.
KEY - get a rheumy and get started agressively treating this NOW! I've avoided damage by having a rheumy that was agressive about my treatment. Here we are, in a tad over a years time, and it looks like we've found the key to keeping damage at bay. The first two years are CRUCIAL. Be proactive!! Get educated, do your research and take your health into your own hands as well. Diet changes have helped me notably (I'm a vegan now) and so has supplementation. (Vitamins, chondroitan, glucosamine, green tea, bee pollen, vitamin D with calcium, collagen, gee you name it!!) We are all responsible for finding what works for 'us'. I'm brand spankin' new on the boards, but I've been on and off others and have learned ALOT from them. Remember to share, share, share your experiences as well. We can all learn so much from one another!
Gentle hugs and blessings ~
