Starting Remicade**any advise**

  So im goimg om Remicaide, and needless to say im really really really scared. I dont know what to except. Any one whos tried or is on this med please give me advise. Id really aprecate any info as to what it will be like and what happens after. Ive read on other web sites that some people sleep for like 2 days at a time is this true??

yeah  Sandie!  Congrats! yeah I'm very happy for you!

 

Don't work yourself up into worry.  It's not bad at all.

I started my 1st Remicade infusion on Oct. 9th 2006.  I got premeds of Benedryl & some steroids (you might get Tylenol or Benedryl or steroids, depending on you & the doc).

They'll hook ya up & run some saline first & give you your pre meds.  There will be a little wait.  The nurses there take your BP & vitals.

I hope ya get a cushy recliner! :-)   Sit back relax.  :-) The doc will most likely run the Remicade really slow (like 10 or 15cc for 1/2 hour or 15 minutes) and then each half hour interval they'll bump it up another 10 or 20cc.

My 1st treatment I was there from 9am till 3:30pm.

 

Umh...for me, it didn't hurt, didn't burn....

 

I got a little flushed during it.  My BP dropped, but returned to normal.  I had a real low BP for a day after too. So a little dizzy too.

 

Sleeping for 2 days??????? Well maybe some folks do! LOL.

 

I am very immune suppressed (on a lot of drugs) so for me right now I do get sick the week of the Remicade...but that's more to do with me than the drug.

 

I think you will be surprised at how well it goes.

 

Yes, as with anything there's a risk of an allergic reaction due to Remicade.  But you'll be watched & vitals will be taken.  Many reactions are simply clarified by stopping the IV for a while, slowing it down, taking some Benny or Tylenol.

 

Call the infusion center you'll be going to or call your doc....if you have major concern & are scared...it's their job to explain everything, that and it'll ease your mind.

I have been getting Remicade infusions every 6 weeks for 2.5 years. I never have felt the need to sleep outside my normal bedtime hours after getting an infusion. In fact, I usually stop off and do some shopping at the mall or grocery after getting my infusion. I have had no problems after the infusion with "sickness" other than a day of some killer gas. Of course, I also have Crohn's disease and the gas is likely a by-product of that.

In many infusion centers, a video or DVD about Remicade is shown to the patient prior to them getting an infusion. Or your prescribing physician or his staff perhaps gave you a brochure about Remicade that has caused some of your anxiety. Just remember that ALL medications have the potential for causing a problem in SOME people. Even stuff like Tylenol has risks and the companies are mandated to inform you of those risks to lower their liability.

I hope your first infusion brings some relief to you!

 Thank you guys sooooo much. im really glad i found this site the people on here are very helpful. I was completly in the dark before healingwell. Now im alot better i dont freak out as much anymore. Thank you all again.

Hi Sandy,
I have een remicade for over a year now. What everyone says here is true. They will watch you very closely. I take my I pod with me. Sometimes there is someone else there and we talk if they want to. WE also sit in a comfortable recliner. I will tell you it has helped me. Take care and let us inow.
