Prednisone

Good Morning to all,

I started Prednisone yesterday. I was wondering how many mg. do most people take? I am on 10mg. every morning and he gave me a prescription for 100, refillable 3X's. How soon will Predisone start working? I felt less painful yesterday evening but could that be due to a placebo affect? While lurking on this site I've read about people taking a tapering dose. How does that work?

I had my MRI yesterday. Good thing I am not frightened by tight space or loud noises. I have looked up AS as suggested and maybe thats why he ordered the MRI. At first I thought that AS only affected the lumbar spine but upon further research it can affect cervical spine and other joints. I will see what he comes up with at my appt. on Thursday.

When you start Prednisone did it work right away? Do you have side effects? weight gain, hair growth?

I am very concerned about decreased immune system. I work with children and often get colds from them. Every year I get at least one bout of viral pnuemonia and can't shake the cough for quite some time.

It is so nice to chat with people who know where your coming from. Thursday I find out the results of my MRI. I already know by xray that I have some fusing of my Cervical spine. I have read about AS as suggested and the symptoms sure sound like me. I am amazed how well the predisone is working. Little pain In my neck, arms wrists, ankles, fingers and meta tarsals. I continue to have some hip and knee pain. I know that I have Osteo in my knee. I was hit by a car and my brother accidently shot me in the knee when I was child. Thanks again for your support. Someday maybe I can be helpful for others also.

For those on predisone as well as myself. Don't abuse the drug like my father did and take more than your docotor subscribes. My fathers bones became so brittle he loss 7 inches in his height and eventuallly died from congestive heart failure. He loved the drug and how well it worked but I sure wish they would have had remicade then. I take 10 mg 2 days before my infusion of remicade and for 2 days afterwards, but most of the time only mg a day will do.

did they confirm your AS? do u have swollen joins? or ESR or C protein reactive?

pls reply i have dillema with dx...maybe could be AS cos all the joints r affected

Thanks for responding to this topic. I have been responding to Prednisone pretty well. My neck, wrists and ankles don't hurt at all. I still have pain in my hip and knee. I guess I have Osteoarthritis there. I can see how a person would like to stay on this drug. I am concerned about the long term risks. Do other drugs used for inflammatory athritis have less risks?
