new joint pain. Looking for a Rheumy in Birmingham or Montgomery

I am new to this forum.

 I have been having upper L abd pain and Crohn's like symptoms for 6 months. I have had all the tests (all neg) and just went to Atlanta (a 3 hour trip) to see a specialist to find out for sure.  What I am asking y'all is ---- I have started with joint pain in every joint about 3 weeks ago.  Does anyone know of a good caring rheumy MD in MOntgomery or Birmingham.  I really don't want to drive all the way to Atlanta again.  Birmingham is only 1 hour away.  Does my pain sound like RA?  I even hurt in the little joints of my fingers and toes.

We are glade to have you all though sorry that you are having to deal with all of this.Ok let me ask you a few question.

Has this Doctor that you seen in Atlanta do a colonosaphy(sp)what all test have you had done?if you could tell me I will be able to help you better.

It is not uncommon to have arthritis that is caused by the the crohns,there are a good bite of people that suffer with joint pain.It seem's that joint pain and crohns goes hand in hand for most with crohns.I being one of them.

I do think that you are right for wanting to see a Rheumy.It is not uncommon to have more than one autoimmun diseases.I my self have crohns,ra,oa,as and I have sejerens as well.

There are so many types of arthritis and some have alot of the same symptons so some times it hard to pinpoint what typ that you may have.I do hope that your Doctor has good news and you don't have crohns.Please let me know how that turns out.

I use to live in montgomery in fact my mother was born and raised there.So I have alot of kin people there.I will give my aunt a call and see if she can give me a few Rheumy docs for you.If you don't mind me asking what part of Montgomery do you live in?My aunt lives on locust st. it's about two blockes from day st,and it's not very fare from jackson hospital.

I have had all the tests done for CD so far except the pill cam and I am waiting for the results of the blood test. So far nothing has explained my pain in my abd for the past 6 months. I live in Prattville. There are only 2 Rheumy's in the Mont. area and I don't hear good things about either of them. Also only 3 GI's they also have a bad rep. The one that did the Colonoscopy and endoscopy was a real jerk. I am in the process of getting preapproved for the pill cam but meantime I would like some relief for this awful joint pain. The Atlanta GI put me on hycosamine and xanax. (even though I don't feel particularly anxious, I told him I would try it. ) The hycosamine seems to have helped the stomach pain somewhat, but my joint pains make me feel 100 years old....

I have had lyme disease now for 8 years. I have been symptomatic for almost 3 now. My joint pain was unbearable. It became so bad that I had bone on bone and some of the tissue in my hands fused with the bone. The joints would pop out of socket if I turned wrong. Believe it or not, the one thing that helped my joints quite a bit was drinking at least 65 ounces of water a day and adding sea salt to my diet. I learned that it acts like a pure antibiotic. I did hurx the first week I did it. After that my joints started to feel better. Lyme patients, according to my Lyme doctor, tend to become very dehydrated, especially if you have joint pain. It can take up to 2 months of a steady water and sea salt regimen before you notice a difference. It's worth a shot. It can't hurt and it helped me. Keep in mind I was on morphine pills and 125 fentanyl patches, I am now down to 75 of the fentanyl and no morphine after this new diet. Good luck! My heart goes out to you. I truly understand your pain. I pray you heal quickly.
