Greetings from downtown Apsley on a cold but sunny Tuesday afternoon. Iam finally out of the dining room and back upstairs and the mother in law is finally enssconced in our spare room awaiting the move into a bigger house for us all - hopefully in 2-3 weeks time. The only dark clouds on the horizon is the attitude of  my sister in law who wants to know where 'her' share of the proceeds of her mother's house are. This is the same person who didn't want anything to do with the future care and responsibility of her own mother and originally agreed to her forfeiting the bulk of 'her' share   to enable us to move in to a suitable premises for the 4 of us. This is the same sister in law who dobbed out of helping look after her father and left MIL and momma bear to it when he was terminally ill. The same sister in law who, when her own 15 year old daughter was 34 weeks pregnant, went on holiday for 3 weeks with the mantra 'what about ME? Aren't I entitled to a life?'  Selfish? She friggin well invented the word. I am one agry bear at the moment but have to bite my tongue so hard to protect the MIl - she is after all 81 and it is her 'daughter'. Ok rant over.

How is everybody in la la land?

So the Red Sox won the 'World Series' eh Yally? in a sport that is only played in 3 countries? Us bears have a world back scratching championships  but only bears from Apsley take part - still a world championship though lol.

Glad to see erin back in circulation and I dread to think what she..............no don't go there bear..........that way leads to hellll and darnation.

Hey Boo - let's run away into the sunset and hire 2 by 4 as our pr person lol.

Bear, was SO glad to see you post. Have missed your posts and poetry...I am going to appoint myself the official thread worrier.  Was ready to shoot you an e-mail to check on you and make sure you were ok.  How have you been feeling?  How's the hip?  So sorry about the mess with your sister-in-law.  Thought that stuff was exclusive to us selfish Americans, and I dont mean that sarcastically.  Really had the opinion that the European cultures didn't have those issues about caring for family. It makes me so sad, that kids can be that way to parents who cared for them all their lives. My dad had to be in a re-hab after a stroke, and it always broke my heart how many people there never had a single visitor..they practically ran us down in the hallways for a smile or a tender touch. Got an idea....give the SIL a bill for her share of MIL's care, ask her how she plans to pay? You're a good man to take such good care of your family.

Yally.....so now you're a Smurf?  Should we change your name lol?  Glad you made it back safe and sound..how's the girl?  Have to tape House tonight...meeting right after work..continuing education on how to change a diaper..so looking forward to this.

Ducky..now I'm getting worried about you, been way too quiet..is everything ok?

CaMama, haven't seen the news past few nights, how are things your way?  Are you and the kids having an easier time breathing? Can't believe they made you go into work!!!  Hope your health is holding up ok. When my son lived out there, he went to Mt Carmel High, really loved it.

Erin, How are you dear?  Don't really want to know how you're keeping busy lol, whatever keeps you happy, girl!  Just so glad to see you posting, hoping you're feeling better every day.

Hey Mom, How's the pumpkins turn out?  Just realized that we didn't do any this year...don't know how it got by me, usually do them with the daycare kids at least.   have to come up with something fun for them tomorrow.

Joan, please don't ever feel alone here, as Bear has called us before, "the Cuckoos Nest" always has room for more...we're all here for you.

Boo....how's it out your way?  Think you're going to end up with a new nick-name too, lol..."Becky 2x4"  sort of has a nice ring to it.  Actually, got an idea of a new job, for you..can just see you and Bear riding the country in your Bug, "applyin attutude adjustments" wherever needed...The world needs you!

Oh Bear, I'm feeling for you.  I have the same frustrations here with MIL.  One daughter is killing herself to help her mother.  Another is 2+ hours away and just lost her husband.  The "baby" is too tired after work (I think with the help of few glasses of wine).  The other two boys call to see if we're "taking good care of mother" and tell us to do this and that.  I don't think I have to tell you what my response is to them.  Believe me, they will be standing in line when she passes to see what they will receive in the way of inheritance.  Imagine their surprise when they are presented with the bills I have paid for pharmacy, hair salon, and nursing home.  I keep very good records.  In the end, Bear, we will be the ones who can hold our heads up high and know we have done the right thing.  Our pillow we sleep on every night is our conscience and some folks wake up looking (and feeling) like crap.

Long day again.  We couldn't even take a break to eat which means I didn't take my meds until I got home tonight.  Feeling pretty bad.  Doc gave me a scolding just yesterday about taking care of myself.  Hubby is wearing himself down too. 

Just looked at some old photos....before hubby, kids, Bell's Palsy and arthritis.  What the H*** happened?  I was HOT! yeah Going to bed now.  Getting between the sheets and zoning out is just the ticket.  Boo

I like "becky 2X4" as well. I know you were angry, but I enjoyed that post.

Bear - glad you are able to make the move  back to your own bed...very nice. Sorry to hear about rotten in-laws. Same goes to you Boo. amazing what you are doing for the family - and being treated so thanklessly. For shame.

Yes, the air quality was much better today! Daughter said they even let them out on the playground today for recess and the house doesn't seem to smell as bad. Electric bill is probably going to be sky high for this past month. We've had the "auto fan" on non-stop since last week on top of the a/c when it kicks on to help filter out the house.

Tired...so tired...good night.

I'm so glad your air quality is getting better, CaMama. I take that for granted until I read one of your posts. Several years ago we had one of those "almost Grapes of Wrath" dust storms. It went on for a week. I would look out the window and watch dust devils. Our land just seemed to blow away every day. It was terrible.
Ok, no wisecracks from Bear. I've got a horse in heat. Got to drag my tired, worn out self out there, catch her and put her in the corral before she tears down the fence. Might need my 2X4.

Whhhoooooooooooooo the air was pretty in upstate New York...full of goblins too whhhoooooooooo. Had a great day except for driving. Have permanent nerve pain in my back from the shingles. Oy vezes mai. Was told by doc to have 75 milagrams dosage of lyrica 2xs a day. Went to a church thing after doc's and it was nice. Thanks babyface for welcoming me. Yep, da pain makes us cuckwhoooooooooooooooooo. Happy Halloweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen everybody.

It's just gone  midnight on all hallows eve and the spooks are making out down at the graveyard corral to the sound of the Monster Mash. The kids have long since sinec gone home having empties the chocolate and sweetie box and put their costmes away for another year. The American tradition of Juvenile street begging has really caught on over here with the uniquely british adddition of terrorising anybody who refuses to give treats by throwing flour and eggs over the front doors of those concerned. Needless to say they only tried it once on the bear's cave but he can look after his own - it's the old and frail living alone who feel most vulnerable to this loathesome practice of the bullies in or midst.  A shame the tiny minority ruin it for the well behaved majority of children.

 

Hi Boo and Yally - mischievous as ever. But I couldn't really think up anything to say that would grace this page regarding a horse in heat! Unless you put Becky 2x4 into the sentence.

See you are involved with AARP. I m a staff member with RSVP in England so older volunteering is dear to me soul.

Thanks for your kind words of support BP and Boo. You can choose your friends but you are stuck with your family - or someone elses in my case. You're right though it is a delicate situation and a balancing act between ones own feelings and the needs of others ie the MiL who at 82 doesn't to be upset - she really is anervy sort who 'worries' about things.

 

Haven't had time to catch up with the rest of the posts yet as I have had a very busy day. Am still on crutches for outdorr walking and am about to starrt physio on the jelly sticks that pass as my thighs - it will take a couple of months to get them back into shape and am not looking to going back to work until the end of January [am on full pay from work plus private insurance that should pay most of my overdraft off at least].

 

Got my neurologists appointment in 5 weeks and it looks as though I am finally going to have to admit that my patch medication has taken me as far as it can without further improving my tremor - which is the main irritant as far as the pd goes. The arthitis is allegedly eradicated by the fact that I now have had half a knee and two hips totally replaced in the past 5 years and the arthritis shouldn't now be an issue, but we know different do we not folks? My fingers are already stiffening up as are my lower spine but that is also connected to my pd. Will I ever know which is which? Hardly, one supposes.

 

Anyway half past midnight and I need kip. My love and [[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[hugs]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] go out to you all especially erin who really need ssome tlc at present and Ducky - have you ehard from Hubb yet Ducks?

bear, do i have to be nice to you??????? maybe not, as you did for some unkown reason relate me to a horse..... hmmmmm

but i do send my support in the family issues.  one of my dearest friends put an addition on her home to manage her mom with alzheimers, opnly for her sister to want the cash but no bother in the care of her mom..... i am happy to say after many years i think 3 they are back together again as sisters but now my girlfriend is getting a divorse because her husband hasnt forgiven the sister who screwed my friend and her mom 3 years ago..... moral of the story...... stay low and do what is right take care of mum.  taht is how you say it in england? mummy.  mum  so much nicer than MAOOM which is the wail i answer to here in the states.  so there i was nice to you for one post :) 

 

jody, so glad things worked out for your son finally.  i know it must be hard to see your kids go through pain and growth in life.  but i know you are a great mom, so he will survive and his kidos too with your help!

yes, am alive. it ain't easy. hands are terrible. happy to still be at Joe's for in all i'm more at peace & at ease which makes dealing with this easoer.
sorry for my typing, it sucks.
able to get on the computer to type just like once a week....((((((((((((pathetic))))))))))))).

news:
got dumped by PCP, he can not accept madicaid patients.
NO ONE in my city (and i called 17 offices) accepts medicaid.
i have NO doctor now.
am very distraught about it & stressed out about it. it's unnerving & i don't like it.

my hearing for ssdi is not in december....IT'S NEXT WEEK. not good...not prepared, turns out i haeve no lawyer (i did file for one 2 years ago for this trial) no one has any info on why i wasn't appointed one.
i'm NOT eligeable for Medicare either (sucks) even if I do get approved for disability next week...there's a 2 year wait till i'm medicare elidgeable.

yesterday's telephone business completely broke me...so today i'm going to try to "strap it on" and get with it & try to relax/unwind and get my thick skin back.

not in a very good positon right now...and being sick AND TRYING TO DO THIS is darn near impossible, but i am doing my bext.
joe's an angel...of course.

so that's all that's cookin'....can't type n o more so ta ta for now & hopefully i'll be back on soon.

Hi ducky I had a lousy day too..........my gastroenterologist is not that supportive of my IBS with constipation.  I intend to keep of poo-poo diary.  He is very into exact dates.

Thanks so much everybody for welcoming me back.  Yalinda...didn't you have a flood a while back.  I was blacked out on my ibs post and was VERY MIFFED and stopped posting here but you guys are fun.  Also the shingles this summer was NO FUN and caused me to GIVE UP on a lot of stuff.

Bear, I am also with RSVP which is translated here as Retired Seniors Volunteer Program and work at the Shaker Heritage Society.  Ann Lee was originally from England and added wonderful things to our culture.

erin! do you have a county hospital in your area???? here we do and they treat and accept medicaid patients....... is there a web site we can search in your area or does the county put out a list? is your pcp jayz?? did you loose him????? tell me no please! let me know if i can help in any way toots.

ducky, i wish i was there for you , you are worried overwhelmed and trying not to be depressed. are ther support services on the base to deal with the issues of a spouse over seas? i am certain your blahs are from life stresses and your world changing so quickly. hang in there and know we care and are here for you. ilu! hugs

joan, ice storm hit this area hard last year and it was a mess. no power heat etc for weeks i think that is what you are thinking of?

Bear..I read some of your post about your sister n law and it reminded me of my husbands aunt who has not helped my mother in law care for their aging parents at all, and my mother in law has had all of the care for both of them for almost 6 years now, and every now and then she will come and take care of them. Her thought on it is, put them in a nursing home and start dividing up their assets :( While my mother in law has the brunt of the work...at this point they are unable to stay alone at night, so she is trying to get them moved to her home, it is a mess, and her sister still refuses to help.

Erin...Why do the doctors have to be so stubborn? and Yalinda made a good point, is there a county hospital or clinic that you can go to? We have a few here that low income families/individuals are able to go to when they need care.

Ducky..it sounds like you are just really overwhelmed right now, and my thoughts are with you.

Jody...I read about your brother and I'm sorry he had such a bitter divorce and the poor kiddos...will they need counseling to help deal with the trauma they have been through (brother too?) sometimes it can really help. Time will help heal what he has been through, but I know its so hard to watch someone you love go through a difficult time and there is nothing you can really do but be there..

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloween...and for those with kiddos they had a fun night! My daughter is 10 going on 11, and I enjoyed her school party and she decided to be a Cheerleader this year which isn't a huge jump since she does Cheerleading...she ended up wearing her uniform..not too original but saved us some money...I suppose? As she went door to door..we came upon one lady that looked at her uniform and said that's a real uniform..because before we went out in our neighborhood, we went to the real estate office and they thought it was a costume :) A $250 costume, I just laughed :)
My boys even at their ages decided to go, but I think they are getting a bit old...and my oldest went until he couldn't hold anymore candy. I love the holidays, because in a year or two my daughter won't want to walk the neighborhood with my husband and I..and we enjoyed seeing all the little ones in their costumes, so it was a fun night.

Other than it is now November and I'm looking forward to turning our clocks BACK and an extra hour of sleep....

I'm happy it's Friday:)

Hi everybody growler on the line. Yes oan, RSVP stands for the same thing inthe UK and I am the development manager for the programme in England - a little job!! We are one dear.
Latest in the sister in law saga - she turned up at my house today demanding to see her mother - of course she could - and after we left the two together we came back to find mother in law in tears having been asked for half the proceeds from the sale of her home and demanding of me and momma bear that when we die her children are written in to our wills as co inheritors of OUR home!!!! I had to leave the house for fear of what I might say or do. She is persona non grata in the house whenever she might turn up and if she want to see her mother she has to make prior arrangement so we can be 'out' but I'm not sure MIL will even want to see her for some while. She wants the money to pay off her mortgage while I carry on with mine and look after her mother!!!! And she cannot understand why we are angry. AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH
Hoping everybody has a super weekend will post as and when the puter lets me - screen keeps whiting out don't know what causes it - more money.
Erin look after yourself and i wish only that I can do something to help. Likewise Ducky - rest as much as you can adn only do the essentials and get the kids to help. TLC is the watchword. Boo and Yally, I did not liken either of you to a pregnant horse!! Honest..............lol

Bear...AARP is kicking off a new campaign here for more equitable health insurance.

Yalinda...I think there was flooding after the ice storm, no?

I have the sniffles (asthma/allergies) and am tired from that. My poo-poo dairy continues but I don't like my gastro doc...he is TOO EFFICIENT and very arrogant I think. Don't think I can meet his requirements today as I have the SNIFFLES...COULD BE SERIOUS FOR THE OLD ASTHMA FACE.

Oh Gosh you guys!!

How many hugs can I send around??  Erin, so wish there was something we could do to help you!! Can't the lawyer who was helping with your finances help you with this hearing? My blood pressure is about to go through the roof at the thought of them cutting off your medical..one just has to look at the people who are getting all kinds of aid and then hear of something like this to see the injustice of our "system".AAAGGHHHHH (trying to quote Bear, sorry) Please, let us know if there is anything we can do, anything at all.

Ducky sending special hugs your way...would do anything at all for you, too, hope you know that.  Man, I so wish we were all closer so we could "circle the wagons" and help each other.

Mom, sounds like things are in a better way at your house, so glad to hear that, you've been on my heart as well.  Thanks for the thoughts about my brother, yes, undoubtly he and his kids will all need some counseling to get through all this, it's been very hard, and we all know that these kinds of hurts leave scars that can affect the rest of your life.

Bear...my gosh, how did you keep from hurting your SIL????Just don't know what to say, it stuns me that someone can be such an arse..to their own mother???? My heart just breaks for your MIL, she must be devasted to see what her daughter has become, and even more to realize how little love her daughter must have for her. . No parent wants to believe their child capable of such behavior. It is such a good thing that she has you and your wife to protect her. Perhaps a British 2x4 is in order here?

Well, so ends the novel that is my post...we are finally getting some cooler weather here...have the windows open and it feel wonderful...it's officially Friday night and not a diaper in sight...for the moment..life is good.

bear, dont sign or agree to anything with SIL and get as much documentation as you can regarding your MIL or your SIL will be in court someday taking your house away! she sounds like a gem! just put the new home in your name and screw her if she doesnt help out! ok sry but me blood is boiling on this one! not good for the pregnancy better calm down before i birth my foal! lol

jody i am home sabres are loosing, took the dog for a walk but it is freezing outside, so gonna play some chess on the computer, yes chess.... what do you expect from someone who likes opera? lol

mad  I'm very PO'd about Bear's SIL and Erin's plight with the system.  Ok, Cool down, Boo.  Very touchy situation, Bear, and I know it's hard to keep quiet (something I can no longer master).  Your wife must be an emotional wreck about all this.  Not fair to have bullies running around this planet.  You could send me her address.......  just kidding.

Erin, have you bugged the crap out of your Congress people?  I love doing that.  Gotten real good at writing letters.  They get tired of hearing from ya and sometimes do something they were elected to do.  Too bad you're not old enough for AARP yet.  They don't look too kindly on this kind of disregard for sick people. 

I, myself, got an out of the side of the mouth, below the belt comment about people who are on medicare and shouldn't be, at the office yesterday.  And yes, it was the employee of the month.  I promptly asked her how she'd like to go home and collect her unemployment, to keep her stupid, uninformed comments to herself because, as impaired as I am, I can still show her how concrete tastes.  One more strike and You're Out, and (I minced no words here) this place has been in business for over 60 years and it will go on with or without you and most probably better without you.  Whew!  I was exhausted and she went home crying. 

Wouldn't want her to know this but maybe she keeps me going by making me so mad I could chew nails.  And all the stuff going on with SIL and MIL just keeps me walking (like a question mark) and going and doing what has to be done.  That's life.  Never mind that I go to bed before the sun goes down and the birds are still singing outside.  Someday I'll have my little cabin at the lake and no employees, IRS, deadlines, etc.  Man, I've taken too much space.  Sorry.  Boo

o...you are speaking too me boo when you talk about remarks. I have had to deal with them upstate New York...one from a doctor and a lot from one guy in particular. Also on a volunteer job...went home in tears with them. (After I left them, course.) Everyone of them saying I should work...though I have a great deal of problems walking. Finally I got so disgusted ... I have one good volunteer job and that's that. If they give me trouble, I'm going "can" volunteer work.

babyplace...thanks for good words.  I will go to theatre today and church tomorrow.  Will try to clean up the joint. eyes

keeping sane! doing quite well at the task.
Boo, you mentioned contacting local congress & all, if i had the stamina i would. everything i have goes into doing the extremely basic things...like getting showered & trying to eat something. believe me...if i had more oomph in me i would be rallying my toosh off.

i think the family health center @ my hospital is a place i can go if i get sick...no one has called me back yet from that place & my nurse from my GPs office hasn't called back either (i called her to ask for some guidance & ideas).

Hi there - I had to scan the posts, so forgive if I ask about somethign that's been asnwered.

Joan, I had a pipe leak earlier in the year - is that what you are remembering? I called it 'the flood' as it flooded a small portion of our house.

Erin what happened to the pro-bono lawyer you had? How come they are just giving you notice of your date now? That is ridiculous! Was it Jayz you lost or soeone else? I hop eyou find a doc soon.

Ducky hang in there! You are going through so much, I can understand why you feel not 'right' - lots of prayers and hugs your way!

I"m really liking my job even though I miss being with the kids! I think I partially like it so much becuse it gets meout of the house from the stresses here and the people there being so nice helps. Having some money coming in helps the stress at home as well.  But, I'm WIPED out. Hubby has not been doing his kid duties completely which stresses me out - I come home and have to keep them up late to do their homework. I don't feel great and I so don't want to get sick !!!! Joints have been bothersome big time. I have a funky cough and bad congestion. I thought it was a result of the smoke (which it still smells like an ashtray around here.) But, now I'm not so sure.  Sorry to pop in after a week just to moan.....I am thinking of all of you and miss you greatly as well! Take care

Fall forward, Hump backward.  No, that was Wednesday.  What the heck do I do with my clocks?

So glad your job, at least, is going well, CaMama.  It also addresses some self-esteem issues when you are bringing in $$$$$, doesn't it?  I used to come home to a mess when the kids were home and I was working two jobs.  If I made a fuss hubby would yell at the kids.  Then I figured out that he didn't even know how to load the dishwasher or any household chores.  He does peoples' clothes for a living but never figured out how to turn the washing machine on at home.  He still wouldn't do it today if his life depended on it.  So, every now and then, (surely this is by accident) I somehow get a red t-shirt in when washing his underwear.  Ever seen a cowboy with pink undies?

Made a trip to brother's house yesterday.  Hadn't met the new addition from China yet.  Sooooo cute.  The newest one is 18 months and the other is 3.  The 3 year old met me at the door saying, "Come see my baby".  It was precious.

So now, change the clocks and batteries in the smoke alarms.  Have a great Sunday, Boo
