My sjogren's is an offspin of my polyarthritis, for me it's an annoyance but not my main prob.

Sjogren's seems to be secondary to a lot of the auto-immune diseases! For me it's secondary to Lupus, not my main problem either!

Hi,

Fairly new here too.  Sjogren's is secondary for me also.  Only it is pretty problematic.  All 3 autoimmune (rheuatoid, lupus kidney, and sjogren's) conditions are problematic.  The pulmonary hypertensioni is the most deadly so i am told but isn't as problematic.  It is a result of the autoimmune disorders.

But the eyes are always dry regardless of moisture i add.  They are always oozing some sort of white goo, very embarrassing when i am having an in-person conversation with someone.  The feel like sand is in them frequently and the vision is often blurred.  I have mouth sores regularly but that could be from the lupus activity.  so yeah i woudl consider that problematic but true it was secondary to the RA.

What type of symptoms are you having?  Are you still producing tears.  I stopped producing tear about 5 years ago.

I had more problems about 5 years ago, with constantly dry, itchy, irritated eyes - but as my Lupus has become less active, my eyes seem to have regained a lot of moisture.

There has recently been a new med approved to help with tear production, Retasis (or something close to that). I know people on the lupus forum have tried that - some with good results. It is supposed to help quite a bit with dry mouth as well.

Yes Lynnwood,

The restasis help somewhat but no match for the dry eyes.  Yet it is better than nothing.  I see a new rheumatologist on the 14th, he is across the hall from my very young ra doc now, so hopefully he can shed a little light on the situation. I like the young one okay but when he told me they couldn't treat me for the lupus or the RA because I was on dialysis because of the lupus, i thought I better get a second opinion.  i just can't believe they can't treat me.

anyway, hanging in there just the same.  taking it one day at a time.  today was a good day.

Hi Lynnwood and Southpaw.
Like you , I was told I have lupus back in 1984, now they're thinking it was drug induced, but now my primary problem is Sjorgrens. All the reg. lupus tests values are still positive, as are the SSA/SSB and lip biopsy.
Restasis did not help my dry eyes, I tried for 5 years. The plugs helped a little, but, my goggle inserts in my glasses help the most! I'm going to check into the corneral bandage in Boston since it has a moisture chamber in the contacts. Interesting idea.

How did your drs. differentiate between lupus and sjogren's??
