mouth sores/swelling under tongue

Just checking.....have had mouth sores on the roof of my mouth, tongue and gums - but currently have swelling and a sore on the floor of the mouth, under the tongue - only on one side. There must be salivary glands there as well.... just haven't had this location flare up before. Not very painful - and after 4-5 days it's beginning to susbside. Wondered if others have had this pop up in that area?

Hi Lucy. I've had parotid gland swelling, but not sublingual glands like you describe. If you have lupus (like me) the sores are more likely to be lupus, but the salivary gland swelling is Sjogren's. My book states about 1/4 of Sjogren's patients get salivary gland swelling. It can slowly regress and recur or become chronic. If the swelling is prolonged, get it checked out. Love, Butterflake

Hi Butterflake - Officially, my diagnosis is still UCTD, but I get the mouth sores and have all the Sjogren's issues and symptoms, accept for positive lab values (SSA-SSB). It seems the minor swelling had more to do with the sore than the gland - much like the tissue around a lesion elsewhere in the mouth gets a little red and puffy till the inflammation calms down. (Finally got the flashlight out to better inspect). At any rate it is nearly gone today. Between dental and eye problems lately - probably a bit of flaring going on.
