it could be your parotid gland forming stones - did you notice any swelling by your jawline (at the corner where it turns toward the ear)? - suck on a lemon, if it reproduces the pain (it's your parotid gland), then take advil, use a warm compress (or moist heating pad) and continue to suck on a lemon. This will help the salvia production and stop any progression of potential swelling, plus allow any stones to pass.
also, make sure the pain is not at the point of your carotid artery (typically where it bifurcates - where you can feel your pulse) - then you may have what is called carotidynia (an inflammation of the carotid artery) - please then go immediately to an ENT.
