So, I've been having problems with my equilibrium and wonder if anyone else has this? I get dizzy easily and car sick too! Ugh!!

If I ever was pulled over and had to take a sobriety test, I'd flunk it! I wonder if it's inflammation of the nerves? I don't have neuropathy.

Hi jeanneac. Long ago I had a period of dizziness that lasted about 3 months and I'm convinced it was autoimmune related. I know Sjogren's can cause lots of problems to ears and Eustachian tubes. Still, I've never found any proof, so to speak. All I know is I was miserable, had to frequently pull my car over when it struck, and even had to plop on the ground once when the world was spinning too fast. Butterflake, sorry you've had this dizziness too. I think you are right, that it's part of the Sjogrens. about two years ago, I started having tremors. They did an MRI of my head b/c they were afraid I had MS but all was ok up there. LOL. surprise, surprise...
But now, I think it was part of this SJS. I am going to a new rheumy in a month and hope I get some answers and better support. It's a little scary having two auto immune diseases.

Hi Jeanneac. I have systemic lupus, fibromyalgia, and sjogren's. Since you're going to a new rheumy ask him to test your ANA, anti-double stranded DNA, C-reactive protein, and complement levels- just to be sure you do9n't have systemic lupus. Oh, I've had tremors (and occasionally ticks) as long as I've had autoimmune issues. Tremors really bite when one is trying to do something intricate. For me that's sewing and crafts. My ANA was positive 1:160 and my sed rate is 31, CRP is 1.1. They go up and down, in fact the last time they did my ANA it was very weakly positive. I know they've done double stranded DNA several times. They check me for almost all AI dz. at least once a year but I took a hiatus from rheumy's for a almost 1.5 years. It's been a while since they did a C3 or C4. I noticed my globulin levels were at the top of the normal range last week. That had me wondering a little bit. Maybe it means something, maybe not.
I think a lot of these diseases overlap somewhat with symptoms.

Butterflake are you a retired Med Tech?? I ran into someone on the forums that was also a Med Tech. I was one for 20 years before I changed fields.

Hi jeanneac. I'm sorry I haven't replied sooner. I get very sick for days to weeks at a time as I struggle with Benlysta. Yes, I have a BS in Medical Technology. Worked in hospital labs for 18 years and changed fields twice before becoming permanently disabled. Always great to hear from another Med Tech! Love, Butterflake

Could you please tell me how did your doctor answer to these questions on your medical form.

1-Prognosis of the main medical condition?
2-Relevant physical findings and functional limitations?

So, sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well Butterflake. That stinks. This is a tough dz for sure! Some of the medications are as bad as the disease, but we gotta take them.

There is NO way I could still be a med tech!!! Whew!!!! I was one for 22 years. We must be about the same age. I am glad I changed fields many years ago. I kind of miss it but I think the chemicals and stress would not be good for people with our dz. not to mention the brain fog I get sometimes. LOL...... It makes me feel bad to think back on how strong and energetic I once was............. Ugh-:(

Hi jeanneac. Lupus is my primary dz and I also have all the dryness and associated symptoms of Sjogren's. I get 2 infusions each month- Benlysta and gamma globulin- plus take a handful of meds daily. I've been disabled since 2008. I think everyone misses having the energy and strength pre-diseases. I take antidepressants for that ;)

Most folks don't have any idea how stressful it is working in a hospital laboratory. Results needed on patients dying, constant phone calls for results and us calling panic values, blood draws, instrument failures, large quantities of blood, serum, cultures, etc. to be analyzed daily, stat transfusions- and those are just things I can remember. Labs are very hectic places. It was interesting, but I don't miss it either. Love, Butterflake

Yes, it was incredibly stressful. I handled it well, I think, when I was younger. It was all the other people and administrative stuff that got difficult and stressful for me, so I went back to school, got a masters and changed fields. I'd be making more $$ and have a more secure job though, if I had stayed a MT. But, I have no real regrets. Plus, sometimes I wonder if all the occupational exposure to blood, body fluids and chemicals may have actually caused this disease. I got exposed to a lot b/c I was a MT before the days of universal precautions.

I get dizzy and have equilibrium issues as well. Had not thought it was from Sjogrens but was blaming Gabapenten which I take for neuropathy. My tremor is very pronounced when I have fever. Learning from this blog. :)

It's funny my dizziness comes and goes.............. It seems like neuropathy could give us balance problems. I don't think I have it though but I've had some tremors, which the antidepressants make worse.

Sorry your getting dizzy, I also get dizzy and had vertigo testing a coupke of years ago.....got two seperate dxs from that but not a good solid lead...and the testing was aweful...if you go this route wear old throw out clothes as you might very well throw up, I came close to throwing up and really felt bad for a few days after this testing...

The dizziness seems to have subsided and I hope it does not come back~! I wonder if the plaquenil has helped or if it was low thyroid doing that to me? They had to up my synthroid dose two weeks ago b/c I was too low. It's not a good feeling.

Dizziness and nausea can be very confusing as always thought it as MS symptom and I am not yet Rx as Sjögren's syndrome I am fairly sure I have it .
Vertigo is keeping me on toes as comes and goes.
