Hi, my name is Karen.  I am new to this forum.  I was given abilify for obsessive thinking and also for my moods.  It has worked very well, I don't get obsessive about things,which, usually leads to worry or anger.

I don't know if this topic has come up before, but I was curious as to if any of you have tried it and how it worked for you.

Hi Karen and welcome to the board.  I have just started abilify about ten days ago and I have been having some side effects that I don't really like.  Like a bad feeling/taste at the back of my throat and feeling like I have a lead head sometimes.  I hope it goes away.  other than that I haven't been able to tell anything else about it yet.  sorry if I haven't been much help.

I take Abilify. I was up to 40 mgs at one point, but I'm down to 2 now. It's a good drug but it made me really sleepy and intensified my ditziness. (Like I need help!) Everyone was telling me I was overmedicated, so I kept bugging my doc and she kept slowly dropping me down. I'm not manic at all right now, but I think she wants to keep a little in my system -- hence the 2 mgs. But it did help with the mania -- I can't deny that.

I have never heard of ditziness as a symptomLOL... But I can get that way too. I don't have much mania, no energy for that. But I have obsessive thinking.

I have been a lot happier since I started taking it. I take 10 mg a day. I found out if I take too much I can't sleep. It gets over stimulating for me.

Hi Twisted71,

I hope that the abilify works out for you. I hope that your side effects go away. Have you ever tried risperdol? It is a similar. I took it but it made me gain weight. That is why I switched to abilify.

A short while back I was on 20mgs for about a month, but it made me too sleepy to function. In the end I stopped taking it.

I started taking it again about a week ago but only at 10mg, the only side effect that I have been having is vertigo. So Serafena you are not alone. I hope it goes away soon. I was having a balance problem before starting Abilify, so it seems that it has gotten worse too.

Ahhh -- here you answer my question from the other post. That vertigo is nasty. There's got to be another antipsych you can take then.

I've had a very weird experience with Abilify. For the first few weeks I was on it, it gave me insomnia. After that I felt alright. But then I started to get really tired, to the point where I couldn't function and actually had to miss class sometimes because I had such trouble staying awake. They took me off of it then because the side effects were too strong.

But out of all the meds I've taken, Abilify made me feel the calmest. My results were faster than most meds that I've taken. And the pills were tiny. I hate swallowing huge pills.

I am so sorry that the abilify didn't work out. It gave me insomnia too, then the doctor cut it back. Now I am up to the same dose again. I was starting to think too much. It helps me with obsessive thinking.

I am glad that you have joined healingwell. And I hope that you post more.

Hello everyone,
I have been taken abilify 15 mg for about 3to4 months, i still have obsesive thoughts, and then the thoughts make my behavior and body go into termoil. i don't know if i should ask to up it. if its suppost to help with obsesive thinking. its funny doc's look at you and think you look great, but when inside i look like a bundle of nerves.

thanks everyone for great information the board is helping so much, and it has kept me to stay on my meds. from what i have learned from others past exsperences. thats the only way we can learn.
