What is the proper abbreviation to use here to refer to Bipolar Disorder? Or does it not matter, we all know what you are talking about?

I just don't want to appear like and idiot using the wrong abbreviation all the time. I think I have been switching back and forth.

BD is Bipolar Disorder
BP is just Bipolar

Either way I don't think it matters. When I want to leave off the "disorder" I use BP.

IE: My husband is BP.
OR: My husband has BD. or My husband has been diagnosed with BD.
