Hi everyone, I'm not a sufferer but my wife of 15 years is. I've been reading posts on various forums for years and my situation is not unlike MANY others.

I'm here looking for some input/perspective from outsiders. I'm hoping to find sufferers and family members alike. This would be my first internet post on a forum.

So, obviously I'll keep personal information/details out, but is it OK to talk about marital issues here (divorce contemplation)?

Hey Jon;

Welcome to our forum. You will find this a very helpful & supportive place. My wife was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 rapid cycling, with psychosis around 2 years ago. She has had it much longer then that, but only when it got worse is when she sought help for her condition. We have been together almost 10 years & looking back, she has had it the whole time, just not as severe. We are open to discuss anything on your mind here, just be sure to watch the language, because there are some minors that post on here.

You may want to wait for the official word from Serafena, but we pretty much talk about it all. 

Welcome!  You will find a LOT of support here.  Those who support/are married to/are realted to and love sufferes and those with BP themselves all jump in on a wide variety of topics.  It has really helped me a tremendous amount -- I, like you, am married to someone with BP.  Just today I posted a question about "when do you know it is time to move on...." It helps to get the perspective from others who have dealt with this longer than I and from those on "the other side of the fence."  I hope you find this as helpful and comforting as I have/do!

I'm laughing because certainly you can talk about it. Talk about whatever you want -- within the bounds of the forum rules (nothing violent, illegal, etc...)

Welcome to the forum, Jondoe. You are not alone. There's several others here in your boat, and I hope you find some answers and some support.

I read the rules but all the forums are different. It takes a little while to get a feel for the place.

I am a new member living in india. My wife is bipolar. To most people around the world India would appear strange country with strange customs. Here marriages are arranged and divorce is a big taboo. I am married since last 20 years and have two daughters. Initialy i was unable to understand the moodyness of my wife but as the years went by Iunderstood it better, but my wife became bad to worse. Being in full maniac phase she made my life hell for past 5 years. Things are better now as she is on drugs. Though the mania is overcome the underlying personality remains the same. She manipulates the things for her motives and constantly monitors my activities always suspicious about my motives, some times depressed and sometimes irritable and in hypomanic phases. Her activities have isolated me from my friends and relatives and my social life is nill. Idont have a place where Ican go and relieve my stress.

I am from India as well. Which part of India are you from? It is difficult for someone to live with this disorder in India. People around are not very likely to be understanding. Are you sure your wife's medication is working? If she is still showing bipolar symptoms, her meds are probably not working. Are you seeking counselling? I know it is difficult to find good psychologists in India but you can try. I went to one psychologist who refused to believe I had bipolar even though there was clear evidence for it in the tests he had conducted. I went to a Canadian psychologist after that and she made my day. If you are in Delhi, I know of an American psychologist there.

Hi sachchidanand,

Welcome to HealingWell and to the bipolar board. I'm sorry to hear about your struggles with your wife, and I'm sure if you look through some of the recent posts, you will find you are not alone. Many of our members have spouses who are bipolar as well. I think it sounds like she is still not on the correct medications to completely stabilize her and another trip to the doctor may be in order, if that's possible. I'm sorry you're suffering the consequences.
