Lithium and Abilify meds together?

does anyone have a child on Abilify and Lithium?  My child is in the hospital now and they have started him on Lithium I would not consent for the Abilify because it caused severe weight gain. Even though he takes Vyvanse for his ADHD that med controlled his appetite.  He was on Abilify for 4 months and the last 3 I had to buy him new pants went from a slim to xl so I am not happy about that and the doc's just keep saying that is something that happens with those kinds of meds. Duh!! But they can't give him anything to counter act it.  Nope! My son has tried so many meds,Risperdal, Depakote, Depakote XR, Can't remember the others. confused Let me know if any other ideas.

Welcome to HealingWell and to the bipolar forum. We have a couple, but just a couple, of parents with bipolar children on this forum. I hope they will speak up and answer your question. I know how you feel about the weight gain, as it's something all us bipolars moan about, and no, the docs have little solution to the problem.

I'm sorry your son is in the hospital. I hope he gets better really soon. Let us know how things go.

Thank you for your concern.  The people at the hospital want to see him explode so they can find the right meds for him.  I understand why they need to do this but like that is what gets me irritated.
