I just got the letter saying my claim was denied and I could appeal if
I wanted to.

I don't know...maybe it's not worth the hassel having to get an atty. and all

Maybe I'll just keep trying to find a job, lose the job, find another one,lose it...etc.

That sounds pretty depressing but it's reality.

I wish I could just paint pictures for a living. I'm going to try and sell some at a local
coffee shop. I also do massage therapy but no one has the money right now.

My husband took a 50% pay cut with his new job, (he used to do freelance art) He's
also BP. I need to get a job but the unemployment rate here is 20% and I'm continually
applying and getting rejected. It's ok though I have my Higher Power with me.

I am on the first denial as well. I got the atty after several people telling me that it was almost required if you have an "invisable" disability. Keep trying. Get the atty and let them do the paperwork and checking up on them for you. The one I have takes 25% of backpay awards only and caps it at $6,000. They will not take a fee out of forward payments and not charge any payments that are not awarded.
I have been out of work for 2 years. I tried school, but had to drop out. I can barley keep up with the family responsibilities. Everyone I knkow says that my situations is what SSDI was made for. We'll see. At least the atty took my case- if he thought it was a bust they would't take it on.

red lightening -- I don't think I've heard of anyone with bipolar getting it on the first try yet. I know this is disheartening, and the timing is awful, but hang in there. Appeal.

Absolutely appeal!  I wonder why BP's have such a hard time.  I pay out of my own pocket for short and long term disability through my employer and they have a clause stating if you are disabled due to anxiety, depression or bipolar, the plan will only pay for 2 years.  That does not seem right but anywho.................

 It is truly a long process. We appealed and it has been 15 months and we are hoping for a court date soon. My husband is BP and has no patience and is not positive about anything. Just try and hang in there.

HI i just hope everything gets better, and if it doesn't in the sense you need, a least i hope you have the strengh to hold on, and wait. I'll pray for you, if it helps.

I "almost" got word about my SSDI claim. I called the adjunctor (sp?) and gave my excuse for not getting paperwork back to him in the time alotted, and he said a decision has already been made. He can't tell me what it is. I will get something in the mail after the holiday. Now I wait and try not to hold my breath...

mad  Well  I just got the letter stating that I was denied SSDI for a 2nd time.  I will call the atty on Monday to see what I need to do to go the the Appeal Hearing. They said that I would still be able to work as a general casheer.  Yea, right.  I can't even go grocery shopping without shaking and near tears when I come out.  I have even been known to burst into tears at the casheer when she asks "Hi, how are you today?".  Brain fog (what my psy calls chemo brain) has collapsed my ability to multitask and do math skills. shakehead I can't even get my house to run right.  How am I supposed to do that and handle a job??  No way.

Red Lighting-  Good that you have an attorney!   Realize just about all "Mental health" disorders are denied the first time-!   Do NOT "give up"-!  That's what they want you to do!  Their thinking is..."Well--IF this person REALLY is disabled--they can not work...and WILL appeal!

Your atty will do all the weork...& get 25% of your retroactive pay!   Realize the odds are you WILL WIN!

You need to keep good documentation on everything... and try and find an advocate who can be your voice when ur own brain won't work... they have Independent Living
Centers that have advocates.... the last person I helped got on in 45 days... but I am a Voc Rehab counselor by trade... and knew what they were looking for... that person was dealing with terminal illness also... but had mental health issues besides... keep notebook... and have a pschiatrist who is on ur side... always keep medical people who are positive and on ur side... and if not get a new one who is... cuz they are the ones who will go to bat for you in a case like this... take care Happy Holidays Sandi

I got mine after I was denied.  Hired an attorney.  Like the other poster said, it's pretty much required.  It's terrible what they make you go though.  Especially for a bipolar.

Yep ur right unless u have a longstanding history of lack of employment and another disability that is lifethreatening... ur right...
