Bipolar Poem

Shadowed masses carve black smileys into
the dimpled folds of my skin
... a sluggish fascination
...before the medication
...before the dullness
I was thin...swallowing only life
I painted raucous poems
on sex and rage and menstruation
bipolar ...the ace of swords
double edged...lose or win
mute, fat and stable
or electric, wild and labile
nothing in between
doldrums bend my waves of feelings
into flattened seas of placid being
