about
a month ago I nearly went into the hospital for my illness. I was very near taking my life and in my desperate state I reached out to my former boss, who had helped me in the past when I was going through a rough patch. I asked if he could find someone to fill my shift that week, as I was only working one shift a week at that point anyways. He said that was fine and that I could work again next week.
.... a week passed and I asked him when I would be working.. he said he wanted to give me another week.. I said okay because I had a lot going on still that week.
another week passed... I began to get worried because without my weekly spending money I was dipping into the $300 I had in my savings account..
another week passed.. I finally confront my former boss about
why there is a new girl training when he could have given me the shifts.. I desperately need the money of course.. my meds and my copay take up all my spending money really.. plus groceries.. he tells me he doesn't think I can work anymore because I've become "unreliable" and he doesn't have anyone that can cover my shifts if I get really sick again so basically I'm out..
understand that I loved my job. I was very good at it. I am an extremely friendly person and I'm really really good at making specialty coffee drinks. the creative side of my brain just loves making concoctions and everyone loves them. so now I am job hunting in the middle of the semester when NO ONE is hiring. I already bought tickets to spend a weekend in new york with my boyfriend and now I am flat broke and can't afford to go anymore unless I find a job asap. which is impossible. So basically I got screwed over because I have bipolar, and it sucks.

Bummer, but you did what was right, explaining to the boss, and getting time you desperately needed. Can you tell him that you are doing better, are you? and to please keep you in mind for any fill-in work, and that you really miss your job.
You go to school don't you? Sometimes people call counselling office to get someone to help out part-time/temporary, at least they did when I was in school. Wouldn't recommend babysitting, but that is what I did and made a chunk one weekend when a doc and his wife needed to go out of town without the kids.

I'm in a similar boat. I've been so ill between bipolar and cfs that I have missed 21 days in the last two months. I'm broke. We have a house, a car pmt, 7 pets...just so much we need the income for. I've been put on a written at work, and now my boss has requested a meeting the minute I start my shift today. I'm so sick to my stomach it's not funny. I tried to eat some chicken soup and couldn't. I've had crackers and a banana. I really think I might get fired. On one hand that scares the crap out of me - and on the other, it would be somewhat of a relief - and I'm hoping I could draw unemployment. I have no control over being ill. At this moment, I'm not even sure that I can pull through work until 10:30 pm after this phone call - if they don't can me. So I'm with ya...more or less. *hug*

I actually was hired yesterday by an Italian supermarket and they are going to be giving me a lot more hours and $9 an hour so I am kind of glad I got fired.

Let's see.. have to fill out the application and all the questions for the RA position, and I have one more recommendation to collect.. then I have an essay to write, and three pages of Russian homework to do. that's on the list for this weekend!
