side effects-30 year use of lithium

my friend's husband has been on lithium for over 30 years. he is now experiencing memory problems. has anyone experienced this before?

Hello Emma,

I was on Lithium for about 3 years in the past and had minor memory problems. I would forget what I was saying in the middle of a sentence, unfortunately I think it is a common issue a lot of people complain about. I am not on it now and do not experience the same symptoms anymore, but I was only on it for about 3 years.

I am not sure about the long term effects of Lithium, you should definitely talk to a psych doc or a neurologist if you feel like it is becoming a big problem.
