Hello I am new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I am currently married to a bipolar wife, who recently admitted she had bipolar disorder. We have been together two years and it has been extremely difficult at times.

You and my husband seem to be in the same boat. I am 30, he 35 we have been together 10 years and married the same time with 3 kids. I was diagnosed depressed at 15 and then only since my early 20's with bipolar. It is a strain on the man, I can see it in my husband, but if you can be educated as much as possible about what is goign on with her, it will really truly help you to help her.....lots of information online, such as this forum and I am new here too. Just keep loving her and try to bite your tongue at the moods if you can :) Ask logs of questions here on this forum and i bet it will really help you out, vent and let us know how things are and we are able to share our stories and how we cope with either having bipolar or being a spouse of one.

Thank you so much, I stumbled onto this site and I'm glad I did. The rollercoaster ride has been unbearable at times and after a year of putting up with it I started lashing out at her which is not helping. There are times when I feel all alone.

  With the right meds and treatment the roller coaster gets less bumpy. Not completely level, but a whole lot less crazy. 

  If you both work on this and learn about this disorder and how it affects her you can find ways to avoid things that can set her off.

I understand how difficult it is for the spouse of a bipolar mate (seeing what my wife has gone through with me). Communication is huge & must be maintained b/w spouses in a bipolar marriage. I believe it's one of the keys for a bipolar marriage to survive and flourish (not just marriages, but committed relationships too).

Unfortunately there is no way to tell what's going to set her off. This illness is so unpredictable and so is she. One day I am the love of her life and the next day she won't even acknowledge I exist.
