I just moved to a new town and had to get a nurse practitioner instead of a psychiatrist and she is driving me crazy. All she has done is change my meds and now she said to me she thinks I am not bipolar. It is causing me such anxiety that she say's I am just anxious. I have gone to her three times and she has been cutting down my meds and said she is taking me off my prozac. I also have an eating disorder and the prozac helps me not perge. I do not know what to do. I have been in the hospital 5 times for my bipolar and now she said I am not. What should I do?
She has no business messing around with your med regime with her limited amount of training. Mental illness or not, you need to be very firm with this woman and refuse to comply with any directives that compromise your mental health. You need to speak with her supervisor and have your case reviewed by someone with adequate training. If that doesn't work out, at least stick with the med regime she inherited you with. If she has a problem with your non-compliance, tell her you have a problem with her lack of medical training and that you will comply with her fully when she gets her doctor's degree. Nurses can't write script
s where I live. Do you have a GP who could take on that function for you? I'm interested how those things work where you live. Please let us know how you get on.
