Hello members. I have read on the internet that bright lights could trigger mania. Is this could be true?

It is the beginning of summer and I enjoy going to the beach but if this is true I can't afford going to the beach.

Hmmm, I have never heard that one. Maybe someone else has?

I do know that most meds caution us in the warmer weather due to, fatiuge, lightheadedness, nausea, etc.

Everyone should read the material that comes with their medications for warnings & side effects.

I'll be interested to hear if anyone else has every heard of this.

Sunlight is so good for you (not too much), I bet what you are referring to is actifical fluorescent lightening. Sometimes it is very hard on my eyes. Do not recall if I have ever related it to a manic episode.

I have heard that changing of the seasons can bring on depression or mania, but not just being in the sun. May have happened, but I've never heard of it. I agree with Gem, that a some sunshine is good for you and your mood.

I'm really, really photosensitive and too much light actually triggers a depressive episode for me. I've never had trouble with sun causing me to become manic, fortunately. I stay out of the sun for that reason. My pdoc said its uncommon but not unheard of.
