so i was sent to a mental hospital for 6 days. OMG! it was terrible! The staff there were so mean and disrespectful. Some of the nurses got attitudes, rolled there eyes, said mean things about the patients behind there backs. there was a guy there who was harassing all the women so we all got together and told a few of the nurses and they got upset with us for telling them.We got "punished" for telling them. The one guy that was harrassing everyone touched this one other patient one to many times and so she yelled at him and the therapist asked the guy if he was ok, not the girl.One of the nurses got an attitude with me gave me 3 seperate panic attacks  and then i just lost it on him. i just completly lost my temper and let him have it with my words. then when he brought my breakfast back he brought me a dirty spoon that had food stuck all over it.There were several other terrible things that happend that i dont want to talk about, due to the length of this already. The good news is i got on a mood stabilizer and i still have my job.I am going to tell my counselor about the terrible stay and see what she says.During my entire stay there were only three nice helpful staff members.I went there to get help and i was just dieing for the first chance to get out. The guy who was harrassing everyone got out the same day i did. That place was sick. I feel discusted.  shakehead

I have heard that therapists (and I assume other health workers) can become co-dependent. They eventually start to become resentful of the people they are trying to help.

There is just such a bad stigma that comes with mental illness, that you would never hear of with other illnesses, like cancer.

I am sorry for your experience, no one should have to feel treated badly like that, especially when they are actually seeking help.

sweetie, the health system is way sicker than anyone it treats... and mental health nurses are the nuttiest of the lot. If they were sane before they started the system soon warps them. That kind of disrespectful and illegal treatment is just the way it is when we go into hospital. I don't have a attitude of resignation about it - just acceptance that it is something that is only going to get worse not better, no matter what I or anyone else can do. We cannot change the entire culture of the world and it all impacts on the systemic cultural filth that is endemic in the psychiatric "care" industry. It is designed NOT to treat. It is designed to degrade and humiliate. One has to have amazing assertiveness skills to manage the environment the best they can. It keeps us safer and others safer when it is required. It is only an acute "care" holding cell. The real healing can only happen on the outside of a mental health unit. I am glad you are out. Don't try to put your trauma behind you too quickly; deal with it now, so it doesn't come up and bite you in the butt later. Make a formal complaint if you feel you need to. It won't change the system - but if airing your grievances can help you manage the aftermath, employ that process for you own benefit. Welcome back to light, laughter and freedom. Wolflover. xxx

wolflover, I am so glad you are well shut of that awful place. I had 28 days in a similar place. (At one point I was forced to clean up my own vomit, on my hand sand knees, with a towel, while a sadistic freak gloated over my degradation.) I wasn't able to muster the energy and will to complain at the time. I doubt it would have done any good. But later I did 7 days at a wonderful place... compassionate, competent staff, useful therapy, clean pleasant environs, a completely sane place to get your crap together. In the future, if I ever have need, I will be going to the nice hospital, thank god. Unfortunately, my good experience is highly unusual. cry It makes me very sad and angry that this is the state of things. mad I'm very sorry you had to go through that. cry

ebonyknight What does the words co-dependent and resentful mean as you used them in that sentence?
