kidnies and liver

Hi, everyone I just went to the doctor on Tuesday to get blood work done.  He said the my kidnies and liver was fine.  I was just scared that with so many meds for my bi-polar that something would be wrong.  I am glad that nothing was wrong.  This is alway on the back of my mind because i take so many meds to keep me somewhat sane.  I always keep wondering what are all these meds going to do to my body in the future.  Right now i am only 42.  Has anyone been on meds for a long time.  Right now i am on:

depoke 1500mg

serqerol xr 50mg

luvox 200mg

trilipital 1200mg

lorazapam 1mg

visterial if needed

I also take other meds for different things.  you can see why i am scared.  and yes everytime i go to the doctor i show them my med list.  My psy. doctor says i can't come of of me yet.

I hope you are enjoying healing well :). I am aware how powerful these drugs are, and that they must be treated with utmost respect. However I see the issue a little broader than worrying about the possible side effects writing on the info sheet.

I've been taking meds for 20 years with no ill effects. My pdoc says no meds are clean meds and while that may be true, I suspect that if I body needs these substances to be healthy, they may have less negative effect on our bodies than if we didn't need them possibly??? How else can I explain putting unnatural substances into my body for 20 years without ill effects? That is just a person suspicion though.

What I know for a fact though, is that I would be a statistic if not for meds, and their ability to take the edge of my symptoms. So in that way, meds have enabled my organs to be much healthier - in that I am alive! Bipolar is a extremely serious illness with a high mortality rate. I can't lose sight of that terribly sad fact when looking at meds and their effectiveness and their side effects.

The other thing we may need to consider with medication is that without it we are usually unable to sustain the healthy lifestyle regimes. With meds, I can't eat well, exercise well, sleep well. The meds give me the capacity to live a healthy lifestyle. My entire body, including my kidneys and liver benefit greatly from that.

So while I'm as mad as a hatter, I'm as fit as a fiddle.

The other thing is that bipolar is for life. I think I shouldn't be aspiring to come off my medication, I should be aspiring to managing the chronic condition for the long haul.

Your opinion is valid Winnie. I merely have some other aspects that I wanted to throw into the discussion.

Agomelatin 37.5mg
Microleut 30 mcg

thanks guys for the talk. sometimes i just get so mad that i have to take these drugs for the rest of my life and that i have this disease for the rest of my life. sometime i want my life to be so called "normal" , but i have been off my meds before and i know how bad it can get.

Being on a whole bunch of meds can be scary but the way I see it is I would rather be well from a BP pov and risk having side effects than unwell and in and out of hospital. If you are regularly monitored and any abnormalities can therefore be nipped in the bud I hope you will be OK. As for having BP and it not being fair, it is not. I am sorry we struggle with this when others dont have to, but try to hold onto the fact that you can be BP and stable. Thinking of you.
