Go to the classes. They real have great information.
Stay away from the Drama King or Queen. There is sure to be one.
Force your self to shower and dress every day.
I have been in 5 times. The 1st time can be intimidating. Remember the staff is there to help you.
The plus side is you will have some one to talk to 24/7.
You don't have to clean.
Someone will cook for you.
Someone else will handle your meds.
It will be ok.

Read some books, talk to friends, try to get someone to bring you fast food for supper, be honest with your Doctors.
It will be OK! :)

Hello, every mental hosp. is different. The first for me was over 20 years ago. It was great. This last one, in same buildings, was pretty pitiful..I have had only 4 or 5 true manic phases. They lasted for weeks or even months. Caused me to screw up my family so that today trying to talk about
it can cause a Panic episode. I have had depression the rest of my life. My family would probably attest to that. Like someone said already, there will be an obnoxious drama queen and king. Dont let them get to you. I am a very outspoken person and will leave them alone as long as they dont try to diagnose me in a group session. I can usually insult and confuse them so that they keep their distance. Talking to others tho is a good time to help yourself take stock in your own illness. I have always thought the best help came from other patients. Its good to go to all the classes, the one on one with counselors and with your doctor. You will be lucky to get a good doctor. Remember, someone there one staff will be excellent. There is lots to help you, if not now but maybe months or years later. Think of it as another reality show, and you can be the star if you want. If you have very good insurance you may be there longer. Good luck and cant wait to hear that you are feeling much better.
