I have never taken Latuda, but I was prescribed Saphris by a hospital psychiatrist during a mixed episode which resulted in hospitalization. The Dr. started me out on a 5mg dose and during my time in the hospital he increased the dose to 20mg (maximum dose). I took it about a month or so; my regular psychiatrist discontinued it. Saphris is a tablet that dissolves under your tongue. It has a bitter taste to it. I took it before bedtime, and within 30 minutes of taking it, I was staggering down the hallway, so "drunk" that I could barely make it into bed. It would initially knock me out and let me sleep (insomnia was a big problem for me at the time), but then I would wake up around 2 am every night with horrible nightmares and panic attacks and a feeling of fear and doom, and then I could not seem to fall back asleep. The hospital Dr. said it "should not cause weight gain" like seroquel had for me, but I gained about 12-15 lbs from it. I prefer a pill that I can swallow versus a dissolvable tablet that goes under the tongue. Saphris is fairly new and my regular psychiatrist told me he did not even use it for his patients because he felt there wasn't enough data on the med. Best of luck to you in finding a good med. Hang in there,it is trial and error in finding the right drug sometimes.
