Hi,
I stumbled on this site tonight and thought it was time to try to reach out. I read some of the posts and responses and it does seem to be a caring and understanding community here. That is something I have been missing from my personal life. The ability to openly talk about my isms. My name is Brendan, I am 25 years old, and male. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when I was 19 during an inpatient hospital visit and have been making the rounds on the medications ever since. Right now I am prescribed 400mg of lamictal daily, 200 mg topamax, and 20mg of saphris at night. My doctor will also prescribe klonopin when I get really bad with the hypomania.

I think lately I have been cycling more and more and all my psychiatrist can really do is keep writing the prescriptions. I take my medicine as prescribed, granted in the past 6 months I have missed a few doses. Not only have I been cycling more but my ups and downs have been much more dramatic almost like back in high school.

I feel a little better just writing some of it out. Have a good Wednesday.

Welcome Brendan and struggling with medications is any issue. It takes awhile to find the combo of them to make everything right. I am glad you joined though.

Hello Brendan,

Welcome to the forum :-). I'm glad you decided to join. I'm happy to read that you felt better after writing as well.

It does take a while for meds to work. Sometimes, you have to try different combinations and dosages before you find the ones or dosage that works for you. Remember, it does take some time, so be patient. Therapy also works together with the meds.

Hi and welcome.

Getting situated on medications that are the right combination for us is (at least for me) a struggle. I went almost a year with the same medications working well and then went into a mania in December and since then I have been having issues getting straightened out.

But stick with it you and your doctor will soon be able to find a medication combo that works for you.

Thanks everyone.

yes Xal. I can relate. I have been on this medication regimen for a couple of years except for the saphris which was added a couple of months ago and went manic and ever since then it just hasn't seemed to work as well. I do have an appointment coming up so hopefully things will start looking a little better after that.

Well done for hanging in there and weathering the storm Brendan. We never know when things are going to finally turn around so we just keep plugging away until they do. I saw a nice meme today on FB... "The one thing for certain is I have a 100% success rate for getting through every single bad day". It's a nice strong though hey? This illness makes us so strong ... I think that is why once stabilised, people with bipolar thrive so well. It gives us a good training ground that actually puts us ahead of the race once we find the right lifestyle routines, the right psychological assistance and the right meds. You will get there mate!!!! :) Thanks for joining our community :)
