Office politics, a part of life your parents didn't tell you about when they were raising you.
Maybe hoping by raising you right, teaching you how to solve problems, you would hopefully be able to take on such difficult situations.
I don't work in an office right now (but I've experienced many an office politic, you don't have to explain this to me), but I live in a neighborhood. OK, I've got this guy, one of many in my neighborhood, who's after me. So, I'm wondering, why are so many after me.
I tell myself, you live alone, you're getting up in years, you've got emotional problems, you're sensitive, and with all of that, you're weak, yeah, they like that.
OK, so that's why they pick on me. OK, so this one neighbor, he started after me, right. I thought, he wants you blow up, lose your temper, so he can report that. Not going to happen
My dad use to say, "Roll with the punches." As in don't necessarily strike back, but just roll with the punches.
Also, I think of what weaknesses these people who strike out at other (weaker) people must have. This one guy I'm talking about has some difficulties. So I try to think about that, thinking well this guy is so weak at this and that, that he strikes out at other people to try and make up for his weaknesses.
So I think about that, I think, this guy is not really so strong, he's weak for striking out at weak people, I threatened him.
That way, I don't really have to strike back, I just keep it in mind that he's a jerk. But if they get too rough, you might have to defend yourself. That will be your decision.
There is a slogan in the Army that says: "This We'll Defend." Meaning, we're not going to attack, but we will defend ourselves. And we'll decide when we do that, and how.
The poem "If", says, "If you can be lied about, but don't deal in lies, or being hated, don't give way to hate, And yet, don't look too good, nor talk too wise,"
"Then you'll be a man my son."
Yeah, life is tough, give it your best and see what happens.
