Lamictal - When do you take it? Dizziness?

Hi there,

Glad to have found this board. I have just started on lamictal - starting slow at 25mg a day. I have been taking it a week now. A few hours after I take it I feel quite dizzy. I was just wondering if others had the dizziness, and if so, did it pass after time as other side effects do?

Also, when do people take the lamictal? I have been taking it in the morning, but maybe I should switch to taking it at night so that I have the dizziness while I sleep? :-)

I have read good things about lamictal, so I'd like to continue with it and hope the dizziness passes!

I always took it in the morning. If your feeling dizzy, that'd probably be the best time. Did the doctor tell you a time? If not, thats the time I would. If you take it at night you'll hopefully be able to sleep through the dizzies. However, as I'm sure you know, Pills work like this

/ --- _____ See, It builds up quickly, and then drops off quickly. Well, that slo means that also means that if you take it at night, you're sleeping for the time when its at its most effective. Once its has built up effective plasma levels, that isn't as important, but now it sort of is. I would still say sleep though it or at least find something else you can take to alleviate the vertigo. I'd talk to your doctor about that. S/he can probably suggest something.

I am now on day 11 of my lamictal...25 mg also. I occasionally feel dizzy...but not enough to notice. My biggest side effect has been nausea. I go through periods every day when I feel extremely sick to my stomach...then it passes in a few hours. I have been taking my medicine at different times of the day experimenting with the best time. It also makes me relax and helps me to sleep better when I do sleep. My husband works third shift and I sleep in the day with him...I need to be sleeping at night, so I have thought about taking lamictal before bed time. Since hammilton explained the ups and downs, I might just go back to taking it early morning. How long does your dizziness last? Other than the nausea it has been working pretty good. I just have been really stressed and that has been triggering episodes. I hope it works out for you and that you find a way to combat the dizziness!
