manic,
should you drink alcohol while on meds? the answer is one word: NOT ONLY NO BUE HE** NO! woops, that's more than one word, isn't it? sorry.
the problem isn't only your liver, although that is a consideation. alcohol, as you know and as you have been using it, is a depressant. if a person drinks enough alcohol, they will die. this is what sometimes happens with binge drinking. this is with alcohol alone. drugs make the problem a lot more complex. it is a function of the amount of booze and the amount of drugs as well as the time lapse between one and the other. it is also a function of body fat (ladies, you have it over us men on this one) if you take lithium, which is a mood stabelizer, and then dink two six packs, it is possible that the combination may cause your heart rate to slow and your breathing to slow to unsustainable levels.
i am far from a temperance member. because i take morphene for chronic constant debilitating back pain, i don't even have the occational glass of wine that my wife and i used to enjoy with supper. but if you want to have a beer or a glass of wine, check it out with your pdoc. before i went on the morphene, my pdoc said that an occational drink wouldn't kill me. just be very careful of self-medicating by using alcohol as a drug.
hope this clarifies things a bit and helps you. ask your pdoc. they are usually straightforward.
