First, good luck with your bipolar management.
I do not have BD, but was a long-time TMJ sufferer. I eventually had majoy jaw surgery on both jaws. By rearranging the jaws, the pressure was taken off that joint and I was cured. My case was severe, however.
Here are tips for mild cases: don't chew gum or chomp on ice, etc; don't eat a lot of chewy or tough meat and cut food into small pieces; try not to yawn
Put a hot washcloth (folded) on the sore jaw joint and that might help themuscles relax. I had major congestion with my jaw joint problem and took a lot of sinus pills. I also cleared my throat often, particularly while eating. Try to talk less when the joint hurts and eat soft foods.
Jaw and teeth shape and arangement are hereditary. Doctors often prescribe a splint to hold the teeth in the correct position. Ask a good dentist who understands TMJ (most don't) and maybe get a referral to an orthodontist who specializes in it. It all depends on how bad your situation is. Mine started at age 18 and I was 39 when I had everything fixed.
The #1 cause of ear pain in adults in TMJ. I suffered with earaches for several years. HOpe this helped. APG
