Bipolar and Prednisone

Hey guys, I've been posting on the Chron's disease board, but I've been having a unique problem that others cannot really grasp if they don't have BP. My doctor put me on prednisone and I think it's making me manic. I'm sleeping four hours a night and I'm having severe anxiety and I just generally feel f'd up.

Has anyone here ever been on prednisone and if so, did it agrivate your BP symptoms?

Hi! I also have crohns disease and I am bipolar.

Whenever I had a crohns flare, I had to go on the steriods.

Yes they did throw me into a manic state.

I asked my GI about alternate drugs for my flare ups and he told me there is no way I am going to go into a flare up without being on steriods. He said you cannot have crohns disease without being put on steriods from time to time.

If you have to be on the steriods for longer than a couple of weeks, I would talk to your Psych and see what med changes he/she can make for you temporairly to help you get a handle on things.

Hi Sukay, thanks for the reply.

I pretty much relapsed into a nervous breakdown on Tuesday and had to rush in to see my psychiatrist who put me on Ativan and Abilify. I'm still in a manic state, and I'm only sleeping four hours at night. I'm also on Neurontin, Wellbutring Xanax and Ambien. This whole episode was started by the prednisone. I just put my two weeks notice in to my job on Monday and I haven't been in all week. I'm trying to figure out a way to politely to tell them that I am crazy and they really don't want me working around scalpals right now. (I work at a microbiology lab).

Gawd, I haven't worked in five years, and I was doing perfectly fine. Completely stable, with minimal meds. Now its back to crazy town after only three months of work. I hate this stupid disease.
