Is it common for a person with bipolar to show no emotion.  My wife has been back on her meds for about 5 weeks now but she still seems to have no emotion about things between her and I.  She is in PA with my daughter and her family right now.  I am at home.  When I spoke with her briefly it was obvious that I was upset about not having her and my daughter with me for the holidays.  She just acted like it did not bother her.  She didn't ask if I was alright and she hasn't even bothered th check on me today.  Could this lack of emotion be caused by her bipolar? sad

thats how mine is,,,,,,like a robot,,,,,,which that in turn causes insecurity on your/our part,,,which leads to gloming onto the spouse which further pushes them away,,,

Sure this happens a lot with bi-polar, but it is a sign that she needs to see her doctor asap to get her meds adjusted properly so that she doesn't have to stay in this rut.

When we go through type of thing we really need someone/support to point it out to us and help encourage us to get in to see the doctor. She shouldn't have to live in this type of state. I hope you can hold her hand and help lead her to get help.

I would love to help her but she is convinced that it is me that is making her unhappy and it is impossible for me to tell her anything. I am just trying to treat her like I would like to be treated. We have been having marriage problems for over a year and she had me convinced that it was all my fault. Now when I look back, I think she has just been going through manic phases over the past 4years. Since the birth of our daughter. But at this point she is at least calm but still wants nothing to do with me.

She goes to her doctor on Dec. 7 but I know she will tell the doctor her medicine is working well and blame me for all her problems. I tried to contact her doctor before. all he did is tell her I called and never called me back. she got really mad that I went behind her back.

I'm with Sukay on this, normally when I am emotionless I am severely depressed. Not everyone who is bipolar gets this way though. But you should probably have her go see her doc and maybe even have some med checks, because something isn't right.

well heres a question,,,how come the bipolar person acts emotionless/focuses on mainly one person,,meaning emotionless to the spouse(mine and familymans case) compared to how they treat everyone else

 In general I would say if you feel that your spouse treats you differently than everybody else, perhaps it can be because they don't feel they have to put up a front for you...they feel they can be themselves and let down their guard.  Or maybe they feel their spouse's are more judgemental of them compared to other people who may not know their true situations of what is going on with them or their relationship.

That's what I think, anyway.
