Hi,
I was diagnosed about twenty years ago with Panic Disorder and medicated with Prozac and Xanax (3-4 mg/da). There was a brief eriod when I used Knonipin.
about two years ago, I started to become very depressed. When I finally went in, several attempts were made to help - cymbalta, paxil, and zoloft. The zoloft (with xanax) seems to kind of work but I was still non-functionsal. At 225 m/da and y usual zoloft. So I went to a new doctor. He diagnosed me as bipolar II. When I real the symptoms, it was like a miracle! Finally, the symptoms I had all my life. He presecibed Abilify and continuation of the Zoloft. The Abilify seeme to help, but the effect diminished after a week so we kep increasing the dosage. By the time I go to 15 mg/da, I discovered in March that I had reached the Mediocate donut hole since Aliloify is so expensive.!!!! So no more abilify - on the Lamictal. When I reached 50 mg/da, I was very sedated with no help for the mania.
He prescribed zoloft 150-200/da), wellbutrin 150 mg/da and klonipin (5 mg/da) I have been on the klonipin and zoloft for about a month when he added the wellbutrin. I am back to 50 thoughts at a time and dragging energy. By the way, when I was on only the zoloft and Klonipin, I still felt draggy and heavy but could use my iron will tomove along. Now my iron will has left me.
My question is where is the mood stabilizer. When I was working so much was I manic? Is the feeling of fatigue and heaviness caused by one of these drugs or do I just need vitamins?
Help, Help

Is the welbutrin the XL variety? It is timed release and builds a blood level that sticks around a while.
Have you tried lithium by any chance? Old remedy, but it does help some people as a mood stabilizer. And it is also dirt cheap. Blood work required with Lith due to possible liver damage if levels get too high. I take 600mg a day and it helps in my mix.
I also 2mg lorazepam (ativan) which helps as well. Once again, cheap.
One more thing, Your doctor may be wonderful. But it appears to me he is mainly perscribing stuff with no generic. I'd ask him about that.
Ask your doc if this is a possibilty for you.
Good luck

Hi Claudia:
Welcome to HealingWell and the bipolar board. I hope you find the support you're looking for here.
Klonopin is your mood stabilizer. Zoloft and Wellbutrin are both antidepressants and it sounds like they're not working so hot. You may need to try a different AD. Let your doc know as soon as you can (next meeting -- within the month) that you're not responding well -- you're dragging, not fully functional, and he/she will try something else.
Good luck,
serafena

Klonopin rocks. It holds me together through med changes.
I'm up to 50 mg of lamictal, I'm not thinking it works at the optimum level until about 200 mg.
Never had Abilify.

Based on my experience the klonopin makes me feel the most tired. Noticed nothing like that on Zoloft, in fact the opposite. However I do realize each person is different.
