How quickly do your moods cycle?

I ask because I'm not certain how fast moods are supposed to cycle (from mania to depression) in bipolar disorder. It varies, right? Before I got on lamictal, I'd often swing from being very happy and sociable to being extremely depressed and even suicidal, all within the same day. Just wondering what the range is.

Hi iconoclastic,

This is different for everyone, and meds change it. I am really lucky. My mood stabilizers work (hooray!) and I usually only see differences on a daily basis. Luckily, I haven't had any major mood disturbances for a couple of months (knock on wood.)

Hello Icon,

Like Serafena said, it depends from person to person. Some people get mood changes daily while for others it can be months or even years before severe changes. The mood changes are frequent in those that are diagnosed as Rapid-cyclers.
