Greetings,
My 17yr old, DD diagnosed w/ BP at 13 has been suffering with headaches. They seem to be worse during times when school are in session but she is getting them several times a week. Last year we tried amatripaline but she was having a fast heart beat (130-140) and we discontinued it and switched to topomax which worked well except for it caused problems with her being able to focus in school. During the summer when she was off the amatriptline we saw a cardiologist and used a portable heart monitor to monitor her rapid heart beats. She still had them.
We are now back on amatripline (25 mg and going up) to see if we can knock the headaches out. It's been 10 days and she has had 5 days with headaches.
In addition she takes 600mg Trileptal and 250mg of seroguel.
Does anyone suffer like this with the headaches? Anything that works that is preventative? She takes Maxalt and if she takes it right away it helps shorten the length of the headache which can last for 3-12 hours. This BP is so difficult--just when her moods are stable she gets the bad headaches. She is trying so hard and BP just ties her up so life is more difficult then it should be for anyone.
I'll call her pdoc but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions--I am thinking that Topomax might be our only option--better to be in school and struggle then not get in school. She is a senior in HS and she needs to get in so she can graduate.
Sorry for the long post,
Robin
