 Well I had to pay for my meds... this month as my dr usually gives me medicaton  samples. but this month she didnt..

Zyprexa.......$250.00......... my insurance doesnt cover  mental health....

I feel your pain, until I had insurance recently I had to pay out of pocket for most of my meds. It can get really expensive, especially with the newer meds. Sometimes if you can't afford your meds the drug companies themselves offer help, but this can take some time.

I swear by patient assistance programs! When my fiance was unemployed and we were paying for risperdal and lamictal out of pocket (he reached the prescription benefit cap on the insurance we paid for monthly), I filled out the paperwork (and gave to DR to sign) for both and got him on the program.

He was unemployed, I was not, we're in the same household, I did not tell them that.

I'm sure Zyprexa-makers have a PAP...i quickly checked, it is run by Eli Lilly...don't think I can post the link here.

Hi Caren,

I totally understand about the high cost of medications even with insurance.  mad   I totalled up all my medications to date for this year and so far have spent $885.00 out of pocket.

I had a remicade infusion 8 weeks ago and my new insurance left me a $910.00 balance! shocked   I get these infusions every 8 weeks for my crohns disease. I'm looking into other areas for help as well. 

Were you able to find any assistance from the information that others have given you on the board?

I am sorry that you cannot get help due to your income, it's almost as bad as not having health insurance. Hang in there and I hope things get better for you soon. That things work out for you in the end. That is way too much money to spend on meds.

It is very scary to think of going off my current medical insurance. 1 of my seizure meds would be 400 a month (without insurance). Have you had a talk with your doctor about alternative medications which are more affordable? I have already explained to my doc that if my situation changes I will have to look for alternative meds for my current medical conditions. The BP med is very expensive also for me at this time it isn't an issue but should it become one I hope my doctor works with me, maybe yours will too. Good luck let us know how it's going.

Hi Carenpolar,

Even with health insurance drug card my Zyprexa will be $150.00. I was blown away when I went to pick it up! But the good part is that I have only been on it a few days and I already feel sooooooooooo much better! I do not qualify for Lily's RX program either.............but atleast it is there for people who are in an obviously much worse position than ourselves financially. I would rather be broke and feel well than have extra money and feel like I have lately. There was a time when I did not think like that! Keeping my fingers crossed that this is the one that works for me.
