Gotva question for the folks that have BP. Can you feel yourself becoming manic? My wife can feel herself starting to slip when she is on a downturn, but doesn't seem to realize when she is starting to go into a manic state. I can kinda see a manic episode coming, she is starting to show some signs of one, but hasn't said anything about feeling better or anything.

Generally I can feel it slowly building and you can start to see the signs: spending sprees, pressured speech, irritability, flights of fancy. But the problem is that for most people mania feels pretty good. So you'll probably have to help her see it. Even I, as a bipolar II, for whom mania does not feel good, need help recognizing the signs.

Don't jump to conclusions just yet. Take a wait and see attitude. If she starts to really clearly show some problem behavior, then step in. But if it's just a tick up from being depressed, then let her feel better for a while.

Hey serafena;

yeah it's nothing major just yet. Just some irratic behaviour. Mostly food related, craving something intensely, then not wanting it once she has it. She as been mentioning for a couple weeks that she wants orange pinapple ice cream, well we cant find it anywhere. So yesterday we were at the store & she was looking at the juices for orange pinapple juice, we found a bottle, one of the small ones like the gas station has, then she all of a sudden decides she doesn't want it. I told her to go ahead & get it since she has been craving it for a while, then she flat out refused to get it & says she was just looking to see if they have it.  Also she is always complaining about being bored, which I can understand, me being out of work we don't have a lot going on, but she won't do anything to occupy herself either. I am probably just having some preconcieved notions since this is the time of year she usually gets manic.

BTW what do you mean by pressured speech? You mean feeling you have to talk constantly, or wnating someone else to talk to you. My wife is always wanting me to talk to her, just out of the blue, she will say "talk to me". Doesn't want to have a conversation, just wants me to do all the talking.

Pressured speech means the need to talk constantly and the words feel like they can't come out fast enough. That's interesting about your wife. She must feel lonely. Wonder why she can't feel fulfilled even with your attention.

I don't know, she is so needy. There are times when she has to have all the attention from everyone. It's definatly an insecutiry thing, & has just come on this strong the past few years. It really gets on my nerves sometimes, becuase that is one of my big pet peeves, grown people begging for atttention, either out loud or subtlely.
