Just to let ya'll know, I have been on the meds for a while and I can tell a difference in my behavior. For the most part it is better. I still can tell when I'm getting manic, but It's getting a little easier to control. Although, the depression seems to be coming out more the manic side of me, which before if you read my posts, the manic side was almost all I was having, or I was having mixed states. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue? Also, The doctor I'm at has diagnosed me as Bi-Polar NOS and the doc I was seeing before diagnosed me as Bi-Polar 1. Does anyone know, how they diagnose you and how long it takes to do so? Sorry, just looking for some answers. I would post more for other people, but I feel wrong doing so when I don't know much about what's going on with me or know much about this "disease" in the first place....

Also, my anxiety and OCD seems to me coming out more....They both got so much better, then out of nowhere, just seemed to come rearing up. But, like I said, it wasn't until I had been on the meds for a while...No clue, what's going on, because I thought the meds were supposed to calm all this down....

Hi Lindzkaye,

When is your next appt. with your pdoc?  You need to let him know what is going on with you so that he can make some adjustments for you or add another medication.  Don't wait too long.

Doctors usually rely on both observation as well as what patients tell them but unfortunately, this is not always accurate as misdiagnosis can happen. And the correct diagnosis doesn't happen after just one consultation as the doctor's observation takes time.

In fact, my doctor diagnosed me as having bipolar disorder even when I don't have any manic episodes. And that is why I went to another doctor for a second opinion. The other doctor told me that I have schizo-affective disorder but the medication for both are almost the same.

I'm so happy to hear that you are taking your meds and feeling better. As everyone else said, talk to your doctor about ALL of your side effects. Everyone reacts differently to different meds so you need to tell your doctor what you are going through. Also, remember that the meds can take some time to work and you may have a couple of rough patches until they "kick in".

As for the diagnosis, BP has many facets and (this is only my opinion) I don't think everyone falls into a neat category. Just keep being honest with your doctor and working on how to manage the condition. As for you not knowing a lot about BP so you don't want to to post, that shouldn't stop you. It's very helpful to hear/read what other people are going through - good or bad - so your experiences are important for all of us here.

You are doing great so keep hanging in there!
