Gem has PDoc appt today

Gem has PDoc appt and PDoc is not going to be happy because I can't take any meds without a very violent mental and physical reaction.  He said we are running out of options, maybe we need to just take baby steps and work on the worse symptoms first and go from there.  According to him I am BP1, very seldom get depressed but when I do it is really down.

We will see how things pan out today.  Atleast I am still trying.

Hang in there! Giving up sounds good sometimes, but don't do it! There is hope and you are doing great! Keep trying and take those babysteps. Just think "What about bob?". Babysteps, babysteps, babysteps!

Hey Kitt,

PDoc gave me ambien to help regulate sleep, so far that does seem to take the edge off.  He gave me samples of Abilify and and RX for lamictal, which I have not filled yet.  My body is just now feeling better from the Tegretol disaster and I am so hesitant to start anything else and have to go through the side effects.  Maybe abilify (only one I have not tried) is the answer, I am so "gun-shy" so to speak.  I know one day soon I am not going to have a choice.  Stress and anxiety are killing me and I know I cannot go on like this.  Having a hard time accepting Bipolar diagnosis, have been told so many different things by different Drs., it is enough to make your head spin! Just hanging in, nice to hear from you.  Hope you are well.

Hi Gem.

I can definitely relate to how you are feeling. I have a really hard time with all the meds out there too. And it does get scary when you feel you are running out of meds to try.  But hang in there. Just wanted to say something about my experience with Abilify. Very early after starting the drug I experienced pretty bad akathisia (definition: a state of motor restlessness, sometimes produced by neuroleptic medication, that ranges from a feeling of inner distress to an inability to sit still. )

I just wanted to let you know to be aware of it (not to cause you any extreme worry) because it is one of the side effects that if it occurs you have to report it to your doctor. I did, and was taken off it right away.

Most people who have posted they take Abilify have posted such positive experiences on this forum. In fact I don't think I've come across anything like what I experienced.

Please keep us posted and I am sending positive thoughts to you that this will finally be the med that helps you feel betta!!! wink

I take abilify and it works well for me, the best thing that ever happened. I hope that you have a good experience with it. I hope that it works for you. Let us know.

Good Morning Gem,


Oh I know so well the anxiety and feelings of trying yet another new med..................I always want to believe so hard that the new drug will be the one and sometimes reading how others do so well on the same med I get my hopes to high. So now I try to focus on what is happening with me and if I don't feel the medication is working I advocate for myself.



I do hope you will be able to start one of the meds slowly and that it will be the one that does the job for you. You have the right to be gun shy but try not to let that stop you from looking for the help you need. I truly understand your post "Stress and anxiety are killing me ". I have weeks like that where I wonder if life is just going to pass me by but then I remember the good times and know that they are still out there and so I continue to fight the battle against depression and anxiety.

Thanks everybody!  I have not started meds yet.  since I have been sleeping like a "normal" person, I am feeling so much better.  My job is really stressful (lay offs and no replacements) so everyone is doing 1-2 other peoples jobs.  I have been trying to come in and do the best I can and let it go.  I still have my samples and rx, I am trying my best to keep from taking them, we will see how long that will last.  At my last PDoc appt., the top thing on my list to ask him was about taking me out of work, I did not even bring it up, why? I have no idea.  Just cruising right now..............until I have to take that leap of faith and start meds again!
