He prescribed me 300 mg of seroquel to take each night...

I was looking around at the forum posts about seroquel and it seems most people were/are taking only 25-75mg, whereas my doctor wants me to start off at 50, then 100, then 200, then 300 (i have 100mg pills) and continue with the 300.

Is this unusually high? the high numbers make me edgy because i was on lamictal 200mg before and it took me almost a year to get to that dose, but now im going to be at 300mg of something else after only 4 days? should i be worrying?

Hi Voix,

I'm so glad you got in to see the pdoc.

Try not to panic or worry. Is the doc starting you off slowly by splitting the tabs or something? I know I just start every med slowly, so I am not sure.

My personal experience with Seroquel:  I was so sedated I couldn't even function at all.  But it's not that way for everyone. I hope it really works well for you!

I have a friend who has been on serouel. She actually uses it as a sleeping tablet when she needs it, but she says it gives her a hangover the next day. I say just see how you feel oon the lower dosage, and if you don't like it there's no reason you have to take it, there are plenty of other options.

Also, lamictal is increased more slowly because of the risk of stevens-johnsons synrdome, which is a deadly skin rash.

I am currently on 400 mg seroquel and have been as high as 600mg. I agree that it is somewhat "disturbing" to look around the forum and see all sorts of people on "baby" doses of seroquel, but don't let that scare you. For me, seraquel is a very good drug...keeps me from getting too high and helps me sleep like a baby. My neurologist prescribes seroquel up to 1200mg a day...not that I would ever gp yhay high or even need to. I always listen to my body as far as dose changes go. If it feels like too much, time to call your doctor.
