I see my primary doc on Monday to follow up on my new medication (Depakote).  We are going to discuss progress and see if I need to see a therapist or psych.    I feel very off - I actually felt too good on Monday and Tuesday and now I am barely making thru the day.   My hubby is trying to understand BP and said if I need to be hospitalized then he would stand by and help me.

My questions are:

1.  Is there a choice between voluntary and involuntary?   And is the stay about 2 weeks??

2.  How do you deal with confidentiality at work?  I would have to fill out disability papers and also let the bosses know I need X amount of time off.

What are your experiences?

Here if it is involuntary, you have to go to court to leave.

It's more like a holding cell than anything else.  A place to keep you safe from yourself while waiting for meds to work.

I was in the hospital voluntarily (not that I really had a choice about it.  If I didn't go, they were going to send me involuntarily) for 2 nights.

If you are safe, don't go.  It could make anyone go crazy!

Generally it is voluntary, and at least here in Michigan voluntary is for 3 days. Mostly used for people are suicidal or during a major drug change. I agree with tortoise11, if you are safe don't go the hospital route. I don't know of many insurances that would approve a two week stay unless the case was really messed up. Involuntary involves the courts and are reserved for those who really need to be in the hospital but refuse to go. It is sweet your hubby is standing by you. Give him an extra hug.
